rundown
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s two-day humanitarian trip to Jordan is coming to an end, with the Duchess of Sussex adopting a minimalist look during her official engagements. That mindset extended to her wedding jewelry as well. Meghan wore only her Welsh gold wedding ring during events, including today’s visits to the National Addictions Rehabilitation Center and King Hussein Cancer Center.
She wore a taupe Zara cape coat, black top and pants, and Chanel heels. (The coat is not sold out yet.)
Yesterday, Duchess Meghan also wore only a gold band for her engagement.
Meghan Markle’s gold wedding ring may look simple, but it’s hard to put a price on its value. While discussing Duchess Kate’s ring stack with ELLE, Hella Fine Jewelry founder and CEO Lauren Bock touched on the signature materials of royal wedding bands.
“Welsh gold has rarely been mined and has traditionally been used to make wedding rings for the British royal family,” she explained. “I think her Welsh gold wedding ring is priceless given its natural rarity and historical connections.”
Meghan just debuted a more flashy ring this month. While appearing at the NBA All-Star Game, she wore a giant pear diamond ring on her right ring finger. The piece is estimated to be worth six figures, and Blue Nile’s chief merchandising officer Katie Leapas told ELLE that the placement is symbolic.
“Right-hand rings traditionally symbolize self-love, independence or personal accomplishment, and are an evolution of jewelry with roots in the 1920s,” she said. “It’s no surprise that women who embraced their newfound social emancipation, fought for the right to vote, and joined the workforce popularized this style. They were the first women to buy their own diamonds! Diamonds are also important heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation by mothers and grandmothers. This ring could one day be a gift for Meghan to Lilybet.”
