Before losing his battle with cancer in February, James Van Der Beek congratulated his ex-wife Heather McComb on his remarriage.
The actress, who married Scott Michael Campbell on May 30, revealed to Us Weekly on Tuesday that during her “beautiful” final conversation with her ex-spouse, they talked about their planned wedding.
“Both James and[wife]Kimberly[Van Der Beek]knew that Scott and I were getting married,” the bride told the outlet. “They were both so full of love, support and excitement.”
Notably, McComb was married to James from 2003 to 2010, and they remained friendly after their separation, even co-starring in a 2015 episode of “CSI: Cyber.”
“Receiving his blessing” before walking down the aisle again was “something that (McCombs) will always hold close to his heart.”
The 49-year-old praised the “beautiful” way the late Varsity Blues star loved “other people, especially Kimberly” and their six children.
“I know that James wants us to celebrate our love the same way he celebrated his love for Kimberly, and it was so beautiful,” she said.
McComb went on to say that she felt the presence of “all the people we lost (her and Campbell)” at last month’s ceremony.
“I think there were a lot of people in heaven shining on us that day,” she recalled. “It was magical in the sense that we saw a double rainbow, two ladybugs, two white doves… Hats off to everyone who wasn’t there that day.”
When James passed away, McComb posted a touching nostalgic photo on Instagram, which became a hot topic of conversation.
“I am heartbroken over the loss of my beloved James,” she told her followers in February. “What a journey we have shared over the years. I sit here with tremendous gratitude for the special connection, friendship, and love that James and I shared that has endured over the decades.
McComb added at the time: “I will cherish the last loving words we exchanged,” and shared a link to a fundraiser for James’ surviving family.
Three months later, she celebrated her wedding.
“Yesterday, @scottmichaelcampbell and I were officially married under God’s covenant…in our favorite city, Missoula Montana, surrounded by the people we love most in the world,” she captioned the sweet snap. “Our hearts are filled and humbled by all the love that has surrounded us.”
She concluded, “We sit here and count our many blessings. Thank you to everyone who made this so special for us!”
