Demi Moore turns up the heat in Amazon MGM’s new culinary thriller Tyrant, co-starring Charlize Theron and Julia Garner.
The Oscar-nominated star of Substance has accepted a key role in the project, Variety exclusively reports. The film is said to be a high-stakes thriller set in New York City’s elite high-end restaurant scene.
Moore has made an incredible comeback from The Substance, giving one of the best performances of her career as a fading star who relies on a mysterious drug to regain her youth and glory. She won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award in the process, and will next be seen in Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters in late May. She is also part of the Taylor Sheridan TV Universe, starring in the top-rated series Landman.
Written and directed by David Weil (Hunters, Invasion), Tyrant will be shot in Los Angeles with California Film Tax Credits, and cameras are expected to be rolling in the coming weeks.
Picture Company partners Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will produce Tyrant alongside Theron and Secret Menu partners Beth Kono and AJ Dix. Weil will produce with producing partner Natalie Lane Williams, and Stan Brodkowski will serve as executive producer. Weil’s script is based on a story he conceived with Cody Behan.
Mr. Moore is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, the law firm Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown and Passman, and The Lede Company.
“Tyrant” joins Amazon MGM’s growing list of projects. The studio is currently located at CinemaCon, the annual convention of Las Vegas movie theater owners, where it will preview upcoming films such as “Verity,” “The Thomas Crown Affair,” and “Spaceballs 2.”
