Olivia Rodrigo opened up about her current “stage of love” and relationship history in a cover story for Cosmopolitan. However, Olivia Rodrigo did not comment on her relationship status months after rumors of her breakup with Louis Partridge surfaced. Although Rodrigo prefers to talk about his love life through art, he shared a wide range of views on dating in interviews.
Olivia Rodrigo did not publicly comment on her relationship status to Cosmopolitan magazine months after rumors of their breakup with Louis Partridge surfaced. However, the actress, who is releasing her third album in June, hinted in an interview with her close friend Madison Hu that she is focusing on friendship these days.
When President Hu asked Rodrigo what stage of love life he was currently in, he replied, “Oh my god. I’m at the most important stage: friendship love, sitting across from me.” “The best friends, the love of the community. Dating is just the highest quality.” (What Partridge says most about herself is that the day she played at Glastonbury last year, with him cheering her on, was one of the best days of her life.)
The two friends talked in a little more detail about whether they are critical of their daters.
“It’s not that we criticize each other,” Rodrigo said. “And the partner is neither here nor there. Who is my friend in this relationship? How does this person make her feel about herself? Is she happy?”
“And is my best friend showing his true self to this person?” Hu added. “Do you think our relationship has influenced the way you approach romantic relationships?”
“No,” Rodrigo answered. “To be honest, you should probably integrate it. But you’re a Gemini, and three of the five men I’ve dated in my life have been Geminis.” (Partridge is a Gemini, along with Adam Feys and Zach Bier.)
The singer spoke about why it was important to her that a potential partner get along with Mr. Hu. “That’s one of the conditions when I want to date someone: Are they okay with me and Madison sitting and hanging and playing cards? If they can’t stand it, they can’t hang out with me. Your partner doesn’t look like me at all.”
“Absolutely not,” Hu said. “But what I’m looking for is peace when I’m with you. And I want my partner to enjoy the same pleasure that I have when I’m with you.”
“But no one has ever made me laugh as much as you,” Rodrigo admitted. “Not even a quarter.”
The two friends’ discussion marks Rodrigo’s second interview this year, in which she spoke about her stance on dating while avoiding mentioning her relationship with Partridge.
In an April 2026 interview with British Vogue magazine, Rodrigo clarified that he prefers to let his art speak for itself, his romantic life. Still, she hinted that she is single, stating that she is looking for meaningful connections at this point in her life, saying, “Romantic relationships, friendships, I want to dive as deep into those as I can.”
When she looked at dating as a whole, including the situation, she realized that finding great love is difficult. “Relationships these days are really weird!” she said. “I don’t know if you think so. I’m definitely a lover’s girl. Like, I want to commit to something and be in love. And yeah, it’s hard to do that these days.”
Rodrigo’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, will be released on June 12th.
