The New York Knicks will take over “The Tonight Show” on Monday with a special episode.
The starting five from the team that just won the championship (Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges) join Jimmy Fallon to celebrate their miraculous advance to the NBA Finals and the franchise’s first title in 53 years.
The entire Knicks roster, head coach Mike Brown, and other surprise guests will appear in the special episode. The Wu-Tang Clan, who headlined the halftime show of Game 4 at Madison Square Garden, will take to the stage and give a musical performance.
According to NBC, the studio audience for “The Tonight Show” is made up entirely of “passionate Knicks fans who were unable to attend the Finals in person.”
Previously announced guests for the June 15 episode, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Britt Lower, Rhett and Link, and comedian Zarna Garg, will be rescheduled, the network said.
New York City erupted in joy Saturday night as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The game followed a championship series filled with tense showdowns that ended in a close buzzer-beater victory.
“It’s hard to explain the energy in the city this past month,” Variety’s Marlowe Stern wrote in a celebratory column. “Firetrucks are honking. Strangers are hugging and high-fiving in the streets. Skyscrapers are lit up in orange and blue. Parties are visible left and right. New York City has never been more united in joy.”
