Oliver Tree, known for his popular songs “Life Goes On” and “Miss You,” has died at the age of 32.
The singer, whose real name is Oliver Tree Nickell, has been identified as one of the six people killed and injured in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, southwest of Rio de Janeiro, CNN reports.
Other victims include passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim (also known as Argentine YouTuber Gaspi), Lucas Brito Chavez, and pilots Alexandre Sousa and Charles Marsillac.
According to the report, two helicopters collided while flying over an electric vehicle yard early Sunday morning. At least 20 cars burst into flames after colliding at the crash scene.
Local police told CNN the incident is ongoing and a forensic examination of the scene has been requested.
Tree was on the plane with Vignale, Primm, Chavez and Souza. Marcillac was flying solo in another helicopter.
In addition to the police, teams from the local fire department, CET (Traffic Engineering Company), Comlurb, and 31st BPM (Recreio dos Bandeirantes) are working to isolate the area.
The Brazilian Air Force said in a statement: “The Brazilian Air Force (FAB), through the Air Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA), announced that this Sunday (14 June) investigators from the Air Accident Investigation and Prevention Regional Agency III (SERIPA III) based in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) were called to carry out the initial response to an incident involving two aircraft with registration numbers.” Located in Dos Bandeirantes. ”
“During initial measures, qualified and certified experts apply specific techniques to collect and verify data, preserve evidence, initial verification of damage caused to or by the aircraft, and gather other information necessary for the investigation,” the statement continued.
Tree was visiting South America as part of his “first world tour.” He had just played a show in São Paulo on June 6th and was scheduled to start his tour in Lisbon on July 13th.
Born in Santa Cruz, California, Tree first rose to fame in 2010 at the age of 17 and began working with big names like Skrillex and Zeds Dead under the nickname “Tree.”
After releasing an independent album in 2013, he took a break from music for several years to continue his research in music technology.
He returned to music in 2020 with his first studio album, Ugly is Beautiful, which included the platinum hit “Life Goes On.” He followed this project with “Cowboy Tears,” “Alone in a Crowd,” and the April 2026 album “Love You Madly Hate You Badly.”
