Hilaria Baldwin has revealed that she sought the help of a therapist to help her and husband Alec Baldwin overcome the drastic age difference.
“I don’t think age is just a number, at least in our situation,” the 41-year-old yoga instructor told Caroline Stanbury on Wednesday’s episode of the Uncut & Uncensored podcast.
“Sometimes you have to look at him and say, ‘He’s got 26 more years of experience,'” she added of the “30 Rock” star, 67.
“And sometimes that brings flexibility, and sometimes it just requires a little bit of therapy.”
Page Six has reached out to Alec’s representatives for comment.
Alec and the social media influencer married in 2012 and have since had seven children. Their significant age difference isn’t the only hurdle the couple has faced since getting married.
The Baldwins star’s challenges include two miscarriages, the 2021 shooting death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins on the set of her film The Last, and accusations that Hilaria fabricated her Spanish heritage and appropriated her accent, which she denies as “natural.”
While discussing how they had seven young children, ranging in age from 2 to 12, Hilaria also referenced Alec’s previous marriage to Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger, whom he was married to from 1993 to 2002.
“He had a very notorious and complicated situation with his ex-wife in Ireland,” she said of the 30-year-old daughter he had with Basinger, 71.
“I think he wanted the opportunity to do things differently and make different choices.”
Hilaria said her extended family is “very well thought out,” but confessed that there are typical “tough moments” that can result in spending time in a therapist’s office.
“Do we have normal marital conflicts? 100 percent,” she said. “But it’s a desire for both to be there and a desire for both to do well. I think if you have that, you can get through anything together.”
The mother of seven also revealed that she experienced a loss of identity after marrying the iconic ‘Beetlejuice’ star.
“I think in many ways, I lost part of my identity when I married Alec,” she explained, dealing with the pressure of “other people talking about me on a really big level for the first time.”
“I posted this on my[Instagram]Stories and this woman said, ‘You need to really articulate and know what your identity is because if you don’t, everyone’s going to have an opinion and you’re just going to take it from other people,'” she recalled.
“And it’s not celebrities who say this. We’re all the same, famous or not famous or whatever. We’re all real people.”
Hilaria, who was rejected from appearing on Dancing with the Stars last month, said she was “getting to know” herself during her high-profile marriage.
“I wasn’t as clear about my identity as I should have been,” she said in part.
“People can say this and that. I can’t stop them,” she added.
“But now that I know myself, I hope it doesn’t turn into something as sick to my stomach as I’ve had so many times before.”
