Louis CK’s next comedy special, “Ridiculous,” is set to arrive on Netflix on June 30th.
In the trailer released by the distributor, the comic depicts the story of an elderly father moving into a nursing home. “My sisters and I put him in the house,” CK jokes, “he was too old to stop us from putting him there. He was too weak to forcefully resist.”
CK has been touring the “Ridiculous” material for about a year, recently taking it to the Hollywood Bowl at the Netflix Is a Joke festival.
“Ridiculous” is his first stand-up special released by a major distribution company since 2017. CK released his final four specials independently after a sexual misconduct scandal derailed his relationship with mainstream Hollywood.
After five women came forward with accusations, CK admitted to masturbating in front of the women. He apologized in a statement, saying that while he initially thought his actions were “okay because I had never shown a woman my penis without asking,” he later realized there was an inherent power dynamic between him and the women and “used that power irresponsibly.”
CK was one of the first celebrities to become embroiled in the #MeToo movement. After the allegations, Netflix, FX, and HBO cut ties with the comedian, the film’s release was canceled, and his manager removed him as a client.
After being largely absent from the public eye for several years, CK returned with a surprise set at a comedy club, drawing applause and online backlash. He self-released a special “Sincerely Louis CK” on his website in 2020, addressing the controversy in the first few minutes of his set. CK followed this up with three independent specials: “Sorry” in 2021, and “Louis CK at The Dolby” and “Back to the Garden” in 2023.
