One Battle After Another’s Chase Infinity is one of ELLE magazine’s Women in Hollywood honorees. The 25-year-old actress opened up about what she learned from co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and how she really reacted when she received flowers from Zendaya. He also reflected on how his life has changed, and stayed the same, amid his breakout fame.
Chase Infinity, winner of the Women of Hollywood Award, literally received flowers from Zendaya and life lessons from Leonardo DiCaprio. The 25-year-old star, who broke out in One Battle After Another, spoke to Elle about how her co-star DiCaprio has given her more than acting tips.
“He taught me a lot about being a leader on set and being a beacon of kindness,” she said. “Because he’s incredibly kind and just such a great person to work with. He’s a gentle leader and someone you can easily look up to and reach out to when you need help. So I got advice about the industry from him, and I learned a lot from him on set.”
Infinity also said she wasn’t exaggerating when she wrote on Instagram that she literally cried when she recalled receiving flowers from Zendaya during her performance. “I was trying not to cry, but my friends thought I was joking until I Facetimed them after receiving the flowers, but I was honestly crying,” she said.
Infinity is adjusting to fame, noting that he was unable to appear on several K-pop shows due to his work on One Battle. She is an avid fan and has attended almost every Ateez tour. Her other favorite bands include NCT, Verivery, and Enhypen. “I’ve never gone to fewer[concerts]in my life than I have in the past year because I’ve been working so much,” she admitted.
Aside from missing K-pop concerts, her newfound fame is starting to change her daily life. “The biggest change I’ve had to adapt to is pretty much just online, social media-wise,” she said. “I don’t get much recognition in public. Usually the prize is my hair, because the way[my character]Willa wears her hair is the way I often wear my hair. Usually when my hair is like that, I can hide it by braiding my hair or twisting my hair.
“But through filming ‘Presumed Innocent’ and Paul’s (Thomas Anderson, director of ‘One Battle After Another’) film, I’ve been very fortunate to have great guides and mentors in this industry. Whether it’s Ruth Negga, Teyana Taylor or Regina Hall, I’m so grateful to have three great mentors in my life, three great black women in Hollywood. I’ve gotten a lot of advice from them about working in this industry and being a black woman in this industry. I also have a great team of people who are very supportive and are guiding me a lot as I go through this because it’s something that’s really challenging, especially in a field like this.”
