It has been revealed that Hollywood star Zac Efron is quietly living in Australia while building his dream home.
Efron was revealed to have been secretly living in Byron Bay while developing 128 hectares of rainforest in the Tweed Valley, about an hour inland from Byron. The rainforest was purchased at a discount in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Daily Mail, development has been progressing well in recent months, with the actor hiring Australian environmental designer Joost Bakker to build the off-grid home, dubbed the Future Cave.
News of the development was confirmed last month after Mr Bakker revealed plans had been approved, but it was previously unknown that Mr Efron had been keeping a low profile in Australia during construction.
“Excited to start Zach’s House!” the designer wrote on Instagram last month.
Sources close to the Hollywood star have claimed that he is considering moving Down Under permanently after putting his Los Angeles mansion up for sale.
The property aims to be a self-sustaining, zero-waste home, covered in an ecosystem of plants designed to support insects and help other species thrive.
“He just loves the Australian mentality and attitude and wants to spend time in nature,” Bakker told Homes To Love.
“We’re using this building to help bring a lot of endangered insects and species back into orbit,” Joost said in a later interview with Domain. “So we can actually use that building to create habitat instead of taking it away.”
“Over the past year, we have been experimenting with creating hemp blocks to replace concrete with two materials that restore the environment: Hemp: perhaps the best plant on earth for restoration and restoration.”
The plan is for a series of interconnected pods linked by walkways to provide approximately 9,000 square feet of living space, as well as a gym and an endless plant-covered rooftop.
Meanwhile, it comes just weeks after it was announced that Efron and distribution company A24 would be teaming up for a television project that would be a new take on the novel that formed the basis for the 1987 cult film Angel Heart.
Produced in conjunction with HBO, the project follows a down-and-out New York City paparazzi who makes a living by finding and photographing people who don’t want to be discovered.
Efron’s character is hired by a mysterious man to find a missing woman, but the deeper he digs to find her, the more it appears that a group of powerful elites, and perhaps something supernatural, are covering up the disappearance.
