Netflix’s documentary series “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” which revisits the 2005 trial of the King of Pop, debuted at the top of the TV charts with 17.8 million views in its first five days.
The three-part series premiered on June 3 and features interviews with key individuals who were inside the courtroom where Mr. Jackson was acquitted of all charges, including child molestation, including jurors, witnesses, accusers and defense attorneys. The film premiered a few months after the hit musical biopic “Michael,” which stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the “Thriller” singer and is backed by Jackson’s estate.
It topped the Netflix TV charts for the week of June 1-7, followed by the limited series “The Witness” (13.2 million views) and Tina Fey’s “The Four Seasons” Season 2 (5.7 million views in its second week on the platform).
In non-English languages, the Korean drama “Teach You a Lesson” recorded 6.4 million views in the first three days on Netflix. 2nd place was “My Royal Nemesis” in its 5th week on the chart, and “Berlin and the Lady With an Ermine” in its 4th week.
Topping the English movie chart was Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s romantic comedy “Office Romance,” with 20.9 million views in its first three days on Netflix. “Creed III” peaked at 7.9 million views in its first week on the platform, while the animated comedy “Swapped” entered the top 10 in its sixth week with 7.5 million views.
