“Rooster” averaged 6.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched debut season for an HBO comedy series in more than 15 years, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. This statistic shows that this show is in good hands. “Han” (2009) and “Sex and the City” (1998) are the only HBO comedies to date with higher 90-day average ratings.
This feat is doubly impressive considering that “Rooster” premiered on March 8th and ended on May 10th. That means there are still two weeks left to continue building on the 90-day average. The current average of 6.5 million views already exceeds any comedy produced by HBO over the past decade and a half, including such marquee series as “Enlightened,” “Girls,” “Veep,” “Silicon Valley” and “Insecure.”
“Rooster” is set on a college campus, and Carell plays a writer who has a complicated relationship with his daughter (Charlie Clive). Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses will serve as showrunners. Executive producers include Doozer’s Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Lisa Katzer, as well as Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, and Carell. The studio is Warner Bros. Television, which has an overall contract with both Doozer and Tarses.
It will continue…
