Want to nail a movie star’s mani? It’s easier than you think.
Emily Blunt’s beauty in The Devil Wears Prada 2 (as well as the rest of the cast) looks absolutely slayed. But it wasn’t just good skin care and glamour.
Blunt’s manicurist Julie Kanderec recently revealed on Instagram how they collaborated on a look specific to Emily Charlton’s character, using carefully selected nail colors that felt true to the fictional Dior executive.
In the viral scene, Emily is seen wearing an eye mask, a stunning aquamarine and diamond necklace set from Tiffany & Co., and a deep, smoky nail polish from Essie’s Always Morphing Nail Polish.

“Emily and I considered dozens of shades,” Kandalek wrote, noting that they finally settled on a captivating color and combined it with an Essie base coat and top coat to achieve a long-lasting seal.
After a glowing recommendation, I literally took the leap and purchased this color. I was charmed by the star manicurist’s promise of “a deep, almost black brown with the softest shimmer that catches the light.”
Indeed, the colors are gorgeous. It’s as striking as black, but much more lively.

Blunt wears the Always Morph in many scenes, but the duo also switched it up for other outfit combinations.
“For the scenes where Emily is ultra-blonde, there was only one answer for her nails: bold, unapologetically red. There’s something so evocative about classic red nails on blondes – so Debbie Harry,” Kandalek wrote of the film’s final look.
For the rich red, we chose Essie’s Bordeaux, a universally pleasing deep wine shade reminiscent of vintage hues.

Many reviews claim the color is perfect, with some adding that the polish is “long lasting.”
Finally, for Emily’s gold ensemble in Milan, Blunt and Kanderec wanted “something as bold and sculptural as her Schiaparelli dress.”

They ended up choosing the metallic Good As Gold, and Kandalek added a bit of gold leaf on top of it before sealing it with a top coat.

Although it seems a little difficult to apply, nail polish pros say it’s “so easy to DIY” (the glitter flakes also come in other colors).
Each of Emily’s nails was prepped with cuticle softener Ready.Prep.Go and finished with the line’s apricot cuticle oil for what Kandec calls a “runway-ready manicure.”
It’s a game-changer for spring (or any season).
