Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are reportedly exploring a “reverse Megxit” after completing a short family trip to the UK earlier this month.
“The Sussexes are trying to back out of Megxit,” the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff wrote on Friday, adding: “Some form of return to the UK is apparently being considered, with the couple’s holiday home in Portugal set to be used as a transit point to the UK.”
A friend of Prince Harry’s, who famously left the UK with Markle in 2020 to live in Southern California, told the publication: “There is definitely a sense in his camp that he is starting to feel a little bit unwelcome in America.”
They added, “This is a major shift in sentiment that the American Dream may not be everything.”
“We’re hearing this coming from both Meghan and him,” the source added. “We’re hearing that Meghan wants to rekindle and reconnect with Prince Harry’s British side. She fully supports that.”
“Britain is where Prince Harry’s heart will always be,” a source said. “It’s no secret that they went to America in search of wealth and tried to take advantage of his fame and royalty to some extent.”
They also said that the couple has been “successful” and that “a $100 million Netflix deal is not meaningless.”
Still, the source said their “American dream is fading” and that Meghan “feels like an outcast”.
“We feel like she’s trying to push forward with fresh ideas and projects, but it’s not easy,” they said. “So maybe there’s enough water passing under the bridge here to somehow make it back home.”
Boshoff noted that for Harry, Meghan and their children – Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 – it is not a “permanent or imminent return” and that the Portuguese property should be seen as a “stepping stone” to the transition.
A source told the show: “The couple built a house in Portugal to be closer to the royal family in case their children wanted to attend. It’s in a private area, so we don’t know if it’s finished yet. Meghan had Soho House decorate it.”
A friend of Prince Harry’s told the outlet that the house was “right on the right side of the pond and I think he spent some time there after he went to England last week and before that. It’s an amazing distance to get to London.”
He added: “Harry doesn’t want to be Eurotrash. He’s British and very proud of being British and would like to be in England, but Portugal could be a kind of stepping stone for a few years.”
A source told the publication that despite moving to Montecito with Markle and launching his streaming career, “[Prince Harry]never wanted to be estranged from his family.”
“When he was madly in love with Meghan, I think he was blind enough to choose her. Things are different now and the veil is lifting,” they added.
The newspaper also claimed that Prince Harry “still considers himself a ‘working royal'” despite relinquishing the position in a controversial move in 2020.
Prince Harry, Markle and their children met King Charles and Queen Camilla for tea at Highgrove last Friday, during Prince Harry’s visit to the UK to promote next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham. It was the first time in four years for the children to see their grandfather again.
“Prince Harry was never going to let his children down. They were very enthusiastic about the trip,” a source told the magazine.
“They already have a relationship because they FaceTime with Charles all the time, but they were so excited to finally be able to come. It was their first chance to meet properly,” they said.
Boshoff noted that Prince Harry is scheduled to return to the UK in September for another charity event, and claimed that he is “expected to meet the King again and will accept his offer to stay at Buckingham Palace.”
He is also set to visit Birmingham for next year’s Invictus Games, and is said to be planning to bring the ‘With Love, Meghan Markle’ host to the 10-day event.
The friend said: “If she was in England, she would want to bring her children too.”
Representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment Friday night.
