Meghan shared a video of Prince Harry and his children Archie and Lilibet celebrating their eight wedding anniversary. In front of the camera, Duchess Meghan told her children the story behind the gift and how it went back to when they were engaged.
Meghan Markle publicly celebrated her eighth wedding anniversary to Prince Harry by sharing never-before-seen photos from the royal wedding on Instagram. In private, Harry and his children Archie and Lilibet enjoyed a lemon and elderflower cake (the same flavor as their wedding cake, created by London pastry chef Claire Ptak). Her husband also surprised her with a hefty surprise present that included an unexpected backstory.
The Duchess of Sussex posted a video of Prince Harry presenting her with a cake with her children, and of her family discovering a statue of two penguins standing together, a gift from Prince Harry to Meghan.
Panicked by the gift, Meghan explained why the penguin meant so much to the couple, telling her children: “Mom and Dad, when we got engaged, we had a party with all our friends and we said, ‘Everyone wear animal costumes.’ So we were penguins, because we’ll be together for the rest of our lives.” Later, Meghan shared a photo of herself and Prince Harry wearing a penguin costume.
Meghan told Harper’s Bazaar in November of her husband: “He loves me so boldly and totally, and he sees things in the media that I don’t see, so he has a different perspective. There’s no one in the world who loves me more than him, so I know he’ll always have my back.”
To her, Harry is someone with “a childlike sense of wonder and playfulness,” she said. “I was really attracted to that and he brought that out in me, and it’s reflected in every part of our lives. Even in business, we want us to play and have fun and explore and be creative.”
