George and Amal Clooney have been evacuated from their home as wildfires rage in France.
The A-list couple, who live with nine-year-old twins Ella and Alexander in Brignoles in southeastern France, announced their evacuation in a letter to Mayor Didier Bremont, according to People magazine, according to a representative for the Ocean’s Eleven star.
“Dear Didier, we do not know at this time whether our beautiful home will survive this terrible moment,” they wrote.
“As we evacuate Brignoles, we would like to emphasize two things. First, we hope that you and the people of our city are safe. Second, Amal and I are committed to being part of this community and participating in making it whole, no matter what happens to our village,” they continued, adding that they “love” the town and “our friends who live there.”
Representatives for the Clooneys did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
George, 64, and Amal, 48, make their main residence on a farm in France, but they also famously own a home on Italy’s Lake Como. Near the “O Brother, Where Art Thou” actor’s family in Kentucky. And in England.
According to CNN, 3,000 people have been evacuated in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, where the human rights lawyer and Oscar winner lives. According to the report, 224,000 people were also evacuated in France’s Gironde region.
The Associated Press reported that the size of the “uncontained” fire was four times that of Paris.
In October, the Goodnight and Good Luck star, who wed Amal in Italy in 2014, gushed about the life he and his wife had built in France, saying they were “very lucky”.
“You know, we live on a farm in France,” he told Esquire at the time.
“I grew up on a farm for a good part of my life, and I hated the whole idea of a farm when I was a kid,” he continued. “But now, for them, it’s like not having an iPad. They have to eat dinner with an adult and bring in their dishes. They have a much better life.”
Clooney also expressed concern that his twins would have a “quite a shock in life” in “Hollywood culture.”
“I don’t want people walking around worrying about paparazzi,” he explained. “I don’t want to compare them to anyone else’s famous kids.”
News broke that the couple had acquired French citizenship in December.
In 2022, George and Amal joked that they “made a terrible mistake” in teaching their children multiple languages, especially Italian, despite not speaking the language.
“So we armed them with language that they could use to harm us,” he jokingly told “CBS Morning” at the time. “And neither of us really understand what they’re saying.”
The twins also speak French and English.
George also joked that since he is “from Kentucky,” “English is (his) second language.”
