Netflix has released the first chilling teaser trailer for the thriller series Below.
In the teaser for the six-episode series (watch the full story below), a small seaside town is terrorized by a mysterious marine creature. “Below” will have its world premiere on September 10th as part of TIFF 2026’s primetime program, followed by a release on Netflix on October 8th.
Starring Josh Hartnett, it also stars Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Stokes, Caleb Horn, Rohan Campbell, and Willow Keene.
The official description for the series states:
“Calvin Penny (Hartnett) is a big-hearted but stubborn fisherman from a small Newfoundland town who is still haunted by his father’s mysterious death decades ago. When an unidentified marine creature begins to terrorize his hometown, Calvin must fight to unite his close-knit community. Determined to keep his son Wade (Heaton) and the rest of his family safe, he teams up with a visiting ocean researcher. (Davis) must confront the creature and uncover the secrets hidden on the island before it’s too late.
The show was announced in February 2025, and Hartnett officially joined the series shortly thereafter. He has previously appeared in shows such as “Penny Dreadful,” “Die Hart,” and “Paradise Lost.”
“Below” is from creator, showrunner and executive producer Jesse McCune. In addition to starring, Hartnett is also an executive producer. Jessica Rose will serve as executive producer through Pacesetter, with Chris Hatcher, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall also serving as executive producers. The series was filmed on location in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.
