Singer Oliver Tree tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in Brazil on Sunday, June 14th. He was 32 years old.

Tree was named as one of six victims of the crash, according to multiple media outlets. He was on a helicopter with four other passengers when the plane collided mid-air with another helicopter carrying one passenger.

The helicopter was flying over an electric car yard when it collided, causing at least 20 affected cars to burst into flames.

The other victims have been identified as passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim (also known as Argentine YouTuber Gaspi), Lucas Brito Chavez, and pilots Alexandre Sousa and Charles Marsillac.

he had a successful music career

Born in Santa Cruz, California, Tree first rose to fame in 2010 at the age of 17 and began working with big names like Skrillex and Zeds Dead under the nickname “Tree.”

After releasing an independent album in 2013, he took a break from music for several years to continue his research in music technology.

He returned to music in 2020 with his first studio album, Ugly is Beautiful, which included the platinum hit “Life Goes On.” He followed this project with “Cowboy Tears,” “Alone in a Crowd,” and the April 2026 album “Love You Madly Hate You Badly.”

He was visiting Brazil as part of a world tour titled “The World’s First World Tour.” He had just finished a show in São Paulo on June 6th and was scheduled to begin his tour in Lisbon on July 13th.

Throughout his career, he collaborated with other celebrities, some of whom wrote heartfelt messages honoring the late artist’s life after his death.

Singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha wrote in a post to X: “Shocking. I found out the news about Oliver Tree while I was signing CDs in New York. I can’t believe it. We recorded a record together to become Dirty Blonde. He was very intelligent. Passionate, talented and kind. So sad. May he rest in peace.”

Comedian Whitney Cummings wrote, “Oliver Tree is one of the most talented people on the planet, and though he usually comes with egos and all kinds of ridiculousness, Oliver is pure love and the best version of what an artist and a human being can and should be. There is no silver lining. We have lost a giant.”

Tree was romantically involved with singer Melanie Martinez from 2019 to 2020. Although the romance was short-lived, the artists appeared to remain on friendly terms even after their breakup.

In 2024, Tree addressed the breakup in a YouTube video, revealing that he was depressed after the breakup due to speculation surrounding the breakup from Martinez’s fans.

“I was dating another artist, and when we broke up, her fans came after me,” Tree said at the time. “She was asking them, ‘Guys, please leave Oliver alone. We have a good relationship.'”

He added, “She recently released an album and her fans speculated that it was about me. Even in the comments on TikTok, she was like, ‘Hey, this album isn’t about him.'”

Martinez also honored Tree by sharing a touching tribute to her Instagram Story on Sunday.

“Today was a really bad day. It’s really hard to understand how someone with whom I once shared such a tangible and formative time in my life could suddenly be gone,” she wrote.

“He was very dedicated to his art, which I truly admired and admired. Everyone who knew him will remember the moments of laughter and joy he so easily evoked. His laughter was so contagious and warm.”

“Rest in peace Oliver. I know you’re making the angels laugh.”

He briefly researched polyamory

After splitting from Martinez, Tree (seen here performing in a light gray suit, yellow shirt, sunglasses, and blonde bowl cut) revealed that she was “exploring” polyamory in 2022. Media punch / back grid

Years after breaking up with Martinez, Tree told influencer Logan Paul that he was “exploring” polyamory and “has a lot of girlfriends.”

“I wish I had an excuse for this. I think it applies to lifestyle. Well, I’ve just been exploring it. You know, for the right person, I could be monogamous. I’ve always been monogamous my whole life. I was like, ‘I’m a monogamous guy, and this is all I can do,'” he said in a 2022 video.

“And when I explored more. When I lived a lifestyle like ours. I’m literally on the road. I didn’t live anywhere for six months, then I lived in Los Angeles for a year during the coronavirus. And before that I was traveling for five years, no house, just a suitcase. It’s hard to have a girlfriend when you don’t live anywhere.”

Most of his money goes back to artists

In one of his last interviews before his death, Tree (pictured during a performance) said that after his death he planned to donate his money to future artists. Media punch / back grid

In one of his last interviews before his tragic death, Tree revealed that after his death he plans to donate his money to future artists.

“I don’t think the wealth and things that come from[music]are mine,” he said on “The Zack Sun Show” in April.

“My will is that if I pass, my family won’t get a penny. If I have a wife and kids, they won’t get a penny. I’ll send my kids to university, that’s the agreement. But there won’t be a silver spoon.”

“The idea is that when I die, all the money goes back to the artist. So I set up a foundation, it’s called Dr. Oliver Tree’s Art Grant for Baby Genius, and it’s basically set up to receive most of the interest that’s generated from my music. But there’s also room for other money, because after I die, my art will probably continue to be worth more than it is now,” he added.
