Stars gathered at New York City’s Lincoln Center on Tuesday night for a gala screening of a new film starring legendary Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli. Dressed in extravagant silk dresses and sparkling pinstriped suits for the high-fashion event, the millionaire crowd included Martha Stewart, Allison Williams, Oscar Isaac, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and more, and was a mix of long-time fans, friends and new admirers of the luxury fashion brand. The drama, which combines documentary and traditional storytelling, premiered in Rome last December.
Stewart, for example, has long admired Cucinelli and has worn the brand to dozens of events over the years. “Once I found the clothes, I wanted to find the man behind them,” she told Variety on the carpet. Luckily, Cucinelli is known for welcoming fans into his orbit, and she’s now had the privilege of visiting him multiple times at the grand headquarters of his billion-dollar empire in Solomeo, Italy. She recently attended the designer’s 70th birthday at his Italian mansion, along with dozens of his celebrity fans, including Patrick Dempsey, Jonathan Bailey, Vanessa Kirby and Ashley Park.
Stewart may be a harsh critic, but she was struck by the world he created in a beautiful Italian village. “He has a whole town, a library, a school, a factory, houses, mountains!” she says of Solomeo. “It’s very beautiful.”

For Cucinelli, now 72, returning to New York for the screening was a full-circle moment. This is the city he first visited as a new designer about 40 years ago. “My first thought was, ‘Who is this genius who designed such a beautiful city?'” he recalled on the carpet in his native Italian.
The entire Cucinelli family was in attendance, including his daughters Camila Cucinelli, vice president and co-head of the women’s style team, and Carolina Cucinelli, vice president and co-creative director of the company. “This is the legacy that my father wants to leave on the world,” Camila said of the film’s purpose for her family. “It’s important that people understand a little bit about our vision and brand philosophy.”
Cucinelli, an avid film buff, has cast the Oscar-winning duo of Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore and Life is Beautiful composer Nicola Piovani for A Gracious Visionary, which tells the story of his rise from a farmer’s son to the founder of a world-class luxury brand.
“I wanted to tell the story of my life so that my children and grandchildren know my story,” Cucinelli said while introducing the film. Continuing this legacy became especially important to the designer after his father passed away at the age of 100 two years ago. “You’re a good person,” he remembered his father always saying. “I hope he’s proud of me now.”
After the carpet, attendees were escorted to the David H. Koch Theater for a screening, followed by an intimate dinner attended by Oscar Isaac, Ryan Seacrest, Katie Holmes, and more. See more photos from the evening below.
