Judge Greg Matisse’s career in law and entertainment has influenced his four children.

The TV judge – known for his long-standing Shaw Judge Matisse of the same name – married his wife, Linda Reese Matisse in June 1985.

The couple welcomed their four children together, their daughters Jade and Kamala and their sons Greg Jr. and Amir. Each one follows in the footsteps of their father’s career. Jade and Kamala pursue the law, while Greg Jr. and Amir are actors and producers.

In 2022, the family launched the reality television show “Matice Family Matters,” which gave them a glimpse into the family’s occupation and relationships. Mattis told Ebony that the project is “a unique opportunity to show black families from a positive perspective.”

“Our family is by no means perfect, but we are (a) a family that has a lot of fun together and is all very passionate about our careers and giving back,” he told the outlet. “We also work together, support each other and overcome life challenges when things get tough.”

Mattis continued. “Now, all our kids are grown up. They have to make their choices, and all we can do is sit and watch.”

Jade Mathis, 40

Mattis and Linda welcomed their first child, daughter Jade Ellis Matisse, on September 2, 1985.

Jade studied broadcast journalism in college and went to law school before chasing the footsteps of his father’s career into law. She spent seven years on LinkedIn as an assistant state attorney in Prince George County, Maryland, from 2014 to 2021.

While attending university in 2006, Jade was diagnosed with clinical depression, ADHD and learning disabilities after her father encouraged her to seek treatment.

“I was about 20 years old and had a hard time focusing on school. I was in bed all day long because the windows (and) were closed.

When she told her father that something was wrong with her mental health, he informed her that there were resources she could use. “He immediately said, ‘I need to go see someone. I’m going to see a psychologist,'” Jade recommended Mattis.

Jade spoke publicly about her mental health in 2016 when she testified about her clinical depression diagnosis at First Baptist Church in Grenalden, Maryland. The speech began her mental health advocacy career, and in October 2021 she founded a resilient Jem and put her legal career on hold to travel as a public speaker and advocate.

“I want you to see you’re not alone, but that’s fine,” she told people in June 2022.

Jade’s career also includes criminal justice reform, which regularly advocates victims of racial violence. Additionally, the Washington, D.C. resident is a host of “Legal Pop,” a segment of local news stations who live in the local DMV, according to Instagram.

Jade is close to her father, and Mattis has posted on social media to support her advocacy work. On Father’s Day 2024, Jade thanked her father for his encouragement.

“Happy Father’s Day to the Most Supportive and Selfless Father, the true definition of ride or death,” she captioned Matisse’s Instagram video. “I couldn’t ask for a better father. I love you pop @judgegregmathis.”

Kamala Matisse Webb, 37

Mattis and Linda welcomed their second son, Kamala Matisse, in October 1987.

Kamala also suffered from the legal career of her father and chased him into the law. She has worked as an entertainment attorney for over a decade, first working at a small company in Los Angeles and then as the business and legal director for Warner Bros Discovery, linked in Burbank.

On August 26, 2017, Kamala married her husband, Ryan Webb. According to Essence, Kamala first met in high school and was reunited 10 years later. The couple shares two daughters, Nora, born in August 2016 and Zara, born in July 2021.

Mattis is close to her two grandchildren and often spends their photos together, from celebrating Black History Month to winning ice cream and birthday bashes.

As the second oldest of her brothers, Kamala was called “Mama Matisse” by her sister and brother, and had the role of the older sister she’s always hugged! news. The first season of her family show, Mathis Family Matters, portrayed her relationship with her brother and focused on her motherly journey.

“I’m the only person who’s married and has a family of my own. I think that’s definitely the central part of my story,” Kamala told the outlet in June 2022.

In addition to her legal career, Kamala co-founded the event series social with her mother, Linda. They held an event in 2022 focused on topics such as sisterhood and intentional joy. One of them was included in an episode of Mattis Family Issues.

Kamala has a close relationship with Matisse and participated in events with him, from the 2018 Emmy Awards to the 2022 Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony.

She shared her admiration for her father in a post celebrating her daytime Emmy Award victory in the outstanding legal/court program. “We are so proud to witness another of your achievements. Keep inspiring us all!” Kamala captioned an Instagram photo of her, Mattis, Linda and her brother Amir on the red carpet.

Mattis also shares pride in Kamala’s achievements. Mathis, who promoted the reality show in an Instagram post in June 2022, called Kamala “a girl who does everything,” adding that she was “a demand for a “superwoman (who juggles) as a successful lawyer and businessman while raising two children.”

Greg Matiss Jr., 36

Mattis and Linda welcomed their third child, son Greg Mattis Jr., on January 31, 1989.

Greg Jr. followed Mattis to entertainment while his sisters inherited his father’s passion for law. As an actor, he appeared in multiple television series, including things that obsidium and Mother most unknown to him, according to his IMDB. In 2024, Greg Junior also performed on stage play

His first feature film, “Fighting To Me: The Dwen Curry Story,” premiered on BET+ in February 2025 (his father was the executive producer of the project). The actor is currently working on his second film.

In 2022, Mattis encouraged Greg Jr. to be open about his sexuality in an episode of Matisse Family Matters, which showed the process of coming out with his partner Elliot Cooper. (Greg Jr. previously shared the news with his family when he was 18.)

“His background is civil rights defense and he fights for equal rights for everyone, including the LGBTQ community. So when I told him, I wanted to inspire others and make it more public in my sexuality to really share my story,” Greg Jr. told E! News for July 2022. “But he actually challenged me and said, ‘You have to be that activist. You have to take that step.’ ”

Greg Jr. and Elliott met through mutual friends on Valentine’s Day 2016, and Elliott proposed to Greg Jr. on September 29, 2023 at French restaurant Repbrick in Louisiana.

The couple tied the knot on October 21, 2024 at a five-day destination wedding in Waldorf Astoria, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The intimate, family-only ceremony had 15 guests, and the pair intended to plan a bigger celebration in LA in 2025.

Greg Jr. and Cooper told people they wanted their wedding to “feel like a family trip” because family connections are important to them. Greg Jr.’s father, Mattis, and Cooper’s father, Sergeant Calvin Cooper, co-scientifically performed the ceremony.

“My father is a judge and he is a well-known judge, so he presided over the weddings of everyone else,” Greg Jr. said. “And I’ve always seen him at all these weddings around the country. I’ve always thought up his vision when I got married.”

Amir Matisse, 35

Mattis and Linda welcomed their youngest child, Amir Mattis, on July 6, 1990.

Amir has worked as an associate producer on a variety of shows, including Keke Palmer, Bar Rescue and Just Keke with Steve’s Keke With Keke from Steve, according to IMDB. Additionally, Amir worked with her father in Judge Matisse in her early 20s.

More recently, Amir is the executive producer of Mattis Family Mattis, and Mattis told Ebony in June 2022 that Amir is the “show brain.”

When Judge Mattis ended 24 seasons in May 2023, Mattis launched a new show, Mattis Court with Judge Mattis. With Mattis on the judge’s chair, Amir has completed his training to become an official sheriff’s reserve officer – serves as the court’s enforcement officer who maintains orders in court.

The father-son duo is the first to host a show together on daytime television.

“I want to take a little time to celebrate the groundbreaking history we’re making together,” Matisse captioned an Instagram post between him and Amir on the set of the show in February 2024. “It was an incredibly rewarding journey.

Mattis supports Amir’s career and achievements. Calling him “partner” she shared in an Instagram post about Amir’s birthday in July 2024, “I was proud of me and my family.”

Amir also supports her father. “I can’t explain how proud I am of (father’s) journey and the generational knowledge he has permeated me and others,” he wrote on Instagram in May 2022 to celebrate Matisse’s Hollywood Walk of Famester Ceremony.
