The Paris-based boutique distribution outfit for premium content (APC) has won the global rights to the French crime family “Blue Gold” produced by Banije Entertainment’s authentic products for French Television Re.
The top lining of Barbara Probst (“The Amateur”, “Cette Nuit-Là”), the eight-part series debuts on Le Havre’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous, the biggest market for French television shows, starting Monday, September 1st.
Written by Marie-Anne Le Pezennec (“Dolmen”) and Ludovix Lacroix, directed by Hippolyte Dard (“Sam” and “Astrid etraphaëlle”).
“When a catastrophic drought in 2024 crashes into a remote village of Valans, it reveals more than just a forgotten spring. It awakens the buried secrets from a century ago that have passed through generations,” the official summary reads. “A young woman with curiosity and determination, Floor finds herself drawn into the shadows of her family’s past. Her mother, Alice, has unexplained memories, and her grandmother holds the final part of the puzzle. Each woman is drawn back to Valuan, where the mystery finally unravels.”
The title roles next to Probst include Samir Boitard, Sylvie Granotier, Déborah Krey, Eric Caravaca and Tom Leeb.
“Blue Gold” is a Family Saga and Crime series, combining fascinating mystery with a curse tied to water. “Blue Gold is an addictive drama with a soap element, along with classic research that resonates with audiences across generations around the world,” says the sales executive.
The shepherd in the series is Aline panel from the veteran producer of Banijay France’s Banner Authingic Prod, who has delivered a number of hit script shows such as Sam, Lutheps Assassin, and This Is Us. The show will be streamed later this year and its premiere on French Pubcaster France Television has not yet been announced.
Other premium shows show that they have a top lining of APC’s Unifrance Rendez-vous slate. It was produced by “Season,” the Love Triangle by Nicholas Morley from “Cole My Agent,” Arte’s Windy Production, and the glamorous 1980s crime drama “Big Fuck Up.”
For Mateille, the Unifrance showcase rolling out at the landing on Mipcom “provides clear advantages for distributors like us to launch the upcoming French series. Rendez-vous offers a great opportunity to connect buyers in a more casual way and encourage the series.”
Expanding in the current market, she said: “The global market is bored with challenges and opportunities for content and pure acquisitions. Following the crisis that began in 2022, traditional broadcasters and global platforms tend to invest more selectively, prioritizing established IPSs with clear selling points. Their own originals sometimes create new opportunities for their second run.
Hopefully, each year, a well-made, more original show stands out and is popular with the audience. ”
