“Superman” came out on top at the 6th Annual Critics’ Choice Super Awards. The Critics Choice Association honors the most popular and fan-favorite corners of film and television across the superhero, sci-fi/fantasy, horror, and action genres.

James Gunn’s DC Studios mainstay led all films with six nominations, including best superhero film. The ensemble comprised half of the best actors in superhero movies, with David Corenswet, Eddie Gathegui, and Nicholas Hoult all appearing. Hoult earned his second nomination for Best Villain in a Motion Picture, and Rachel Brosnahan was nominated for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie.

In the television category, the final season of Prime Video’s superhero series “The Boys” led the way with five nominations, including best superhero series, limited series or movie made for television. Antony Starr received two nominations for Best Actor and Best Villain, while co-stars Valorie Curry and Colbie Minifie each received nominations for Best Actress.

The superhero category also recognizes series inspired by comic books and video games.

“Superman” was followed by Focus Features’ horror sleeper “Obsession” and Warner Bros.’ films, each with four nominations. These include the horror hit “Weapons,” Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four: The First Steps,” Amazon-MGM Studios’ “Masters of the Universe” directed by Travis Knight, and “Project Hail Mary” directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Elsewhere in the movie race, Pamela Anderson was nominated for Best Actress in an Action Movie for her role in the reboot of “The Naked Gun.” Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller were nominated in acting categories as part of their four nominations for “Project Hail Marys,” while Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons were recognized for their work in Yorgos Lanthimos’ sci-fi feature “Bugonia.”

Veteran actress Amy Magidan earned double nominations for Best Actress in a Horror Movie and Best Villain, matching her Oscar-winning performance as Aunt Gladys in Zack Creger’s hit Weapons. In the former category, Jesse Buckley, another of this year’s Oscar winners, stars in “The Bride!” alongside Alison Brie (“Together”), Rachel McAdams (“Send Help”), Renato Reinsv (“Backrooms”) and “Obsession” breakout star Inde Navarrette.

In the TV category, the second season of apocalyptic drama “Fallout,” fantasy blockbuster “House of the Dragon” and dystopian thriller “Paradise” each earned four nominations.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II received a surprise Emmy nomination for Best Actor for his role in the Marvel series “Wonder Man.” Nicolas Cage was also nominated for the crime series “Spider Noir,” joining a lineup of top TV nominees that includes Colin Farrell for the noir drama “Sugar,” Rhea Seehorn for “Pluribus,” Rebecca Ferguson for “Silo,” and Holly Hunter for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.”

Launched by the Critics Choice Association to highlight storytelling in genres often overlooked by mainstream awards, the Super Awards feature parallel film and television competitions across four genres, as well as comic book and video game originals in the superhero category.

Winners will be announced in a press release on Thursday, August 6th.
