Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II has been postponed once again and will now be released in theaters on February 18, 2028. The release date will be almost six years after the release of “The Batman” in March 2022. Reeves announced the new release date on Vimeo, along with the first camera test footage of Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight.
Joining Pattinson in the long-delayed sequel are Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, as well as Game of Thrones actors Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Reeves co-wrote the sequel’s screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Plot details are still under wraps, as are the roles played by the film’s supporting cast.
“The Batman Part II” was originally scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, but Warner Bros. pushed it back to October 1, 2027. By moving the film’s release date to 2028, Reeves will need more time for post-production. DC Studios co-head James Gunn defended the initial release delay, explaining that it’s “fairly common” for big-budget titles to have long gaps before sequels are released.
“To be fair, it’s common for sequels to have gaps of five or more years,” Gunn wrote in the thread at the time. “Seven years between ‘Alien’ and ‘Alien.’ Fourteen years between ‘The Incredibles.’ Seven years between the first two ‘Terminators.’ It has been 13 years since Avatar. There are 36 years between “Top Guns”. And of course, there was six years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3. ”
Warner Bros. also changed other release dates as well. J. J. Abrams’ mysterious new movie The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, has been postponed to October 1, 2027 from November 13, 2026, the previously scheduled release date of The Batman Part II. Panic Carey, the new movie starring Julia Roberts and directed by Sam Esmail, will be released on April 9, 2027 (slightly delayed from February 26, 2027). “La Llorona’s Revenge” will appear at the performance on February 26th.
Not much is known about Abrams’ new film, but Warner Bros. describes it as a “four-quadrant, all-audience spectacle.” Abrams will compose original music for the film. The film is scheduled for release in Imax 70mm, which was made possible because the release delay gave them more time to make the prints.
