“Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Branson has signed a new multi-year overall deal with Disney Television Studio’s 20th Television, Variety has confirmed. As part of the new agreement, Branson and her Fifth Chance Productions single will develop, write and executive produce projects for Disney Entertainment Television brands and platforms.
Branson previously joined Warner Bros. TV and will continue to work on “Abbott Elementary.” The show, produced by Warner Bros. TV on 20th, will enter its sixth season this fall. Brunson had a final overall contract with Warner Bros. in 2022.
“I am so grateful to be able to work with Disney, Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television at Abbott Elementary School,” Branson said in a statement. “Building this show together has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished through this partnership. I’m excited to officially launch Fifth Chance under the banners of Disney and 20th Television as the series continues to grow and evolve. This partnership represents an exciting next chapter for me as a creator, producer, and storyteller, and I’m excited to officially launch Fifth Chance under the banners of Disney and 20th Television as the series continues to grow and evolve. Last year, Branson hired Erin Wehrenberg as head of creative at Fifth Chance Productions.
Branson, of course, has a long-standing relationship with Disney thanks to “Abbott,” which remains a hit on ABC and Hulu, and has won four Emmy Awards (and 30 nominations), three Golden Globe Awards (and 10 nominations), and a Peabody Award. Branson also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
“Quinta is a cultural influencer and one of the most original and influential storytellers in entertainment today,” Debra O’Connell, chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, said in a statement. “Through ‘Abbott Elementary,’ she redefined half-hour comedy and built one of television’s most beloved and acclaimed series. We are proud to expand our partnership and continue to invest in Quinta’s extraordinary creative future as she brings new stories to fans across iconic brands and platforms.”
