Director Alessio Liguori will direct “Moriarty Rising: A Sherlock Holmes Story” in Turin, Italy. Written by Oliver Drive, the project explores the origins of Sherlock Holmes’ greatest enemy against the backdrop of modern-day Turin.
“Moriarty Rising” is a “dual-format” production, meaning it will function as both a premium vertical series and an independent feature film.
The film will be produced by former Prodigy Media, the production company led by “The Brady Bunch” star Christopher Knight, along with two-time Emmy Award-nominated producer Phil Viardo, feature film producer Rob McGillivray of Tip Top Productions, and executive producer Jonathan Miller of Aration Media.
The project is being produced in Italy through a partnership with Milan-based Greif Productions SRL, led by producer Gianluca Lazzaroni, who previously produced Paramount Pictures’ The Italian Job, and Fabio Canepa, whose credits include the TV series Hotel Portofino.
Moriarty Rising is the third in a series of premium dual-format titles developed, financed and produced through a dedicated vehicle established by Miller to develop and finance premium content for international markets through a partnership between Marquee Content, formerly the commercial division of Prodigy Media, Portrait Pictures, a sister company of Tip Top Productions, and Alation Media.
“Together, we are building a pipeline of advanced dual-format productions that don’t require viewers or platforms to choose between quality and format,” McGillivray said. “The goal is content that performs at the highest level on both premium vertical platforms and traditional movie distribution.”
Additional titles include Billionaire’s Broken Vow, directed by Alex Boi and starring Lottie Guidi, Robbie Silverman and Academy Award-nominated actor Eric Roberts, and Haunted By You, a paranormal romance horror thriller written and directed by Olya Opalina and starring Tiffany Alvord, Eric Lutz and Dante Ayala. Both productions recently wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles.
