Adam Scott once attempted an unlikely return to the Hellraiser series, even after his character was killed off.
Scott, who recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his latest project, Hokum, recalled auditioning for 2002’s Hellraiser: A Healthy Car, several years after making his film debut in Bloodlines. In the previous film, Scott played Jack, a servant who helps summon a demon before meeting a violent end.
Scott said he had little familiarity with the long-running horror series at the time and was just looking forward to the opportunity. However, when he passed the audition for the sixth film, he was initially confused by the prospect of rejoining a series in which his character had already died.
“My agent sent me an audition for ‘Hellraiser 6,’ and I thought, ‘Wait a minute…I was in ‘Hellraiser 4,'” Scott said. Still, I needed a job, so I thought, “No way,” and “Maybe they won’t know I’m in Hellraiser 4,” so I decided to audition.
That actually turned out to be difficult. Scott recalled sitting in the waiting room, spotting the producer of the previous film nearby and trying to stay unnoticed. “I was holding up my papers and thinking, ‘If he doesn’t see me and they think I’m good, maybe I’ll get in,'” he said.
In the end he didn’t get the role.
Looking back, Scott said his role in Hellraiser: Bloodlines was an important early break, despite some quirks, such as arriving on set to find a chair labeled with the wrong name. Although the film itself was postponed and underwent extensive reshoots before it was released, he said he was just grateful to have been able to work on it at the time.
“I remember just being so excited because it was a real movie. I didn’t care that it was crap,” Scott said. “Even though it turned out really badly, I was really happy to get the job.”
