The new action-thriller film Complex, Texas opened in Cannes with a first look featuring Entourage star Kevin Dillon somewhat impressively clutching both an oversized machine gun and a silver metal case.
The film, which also stars Cam Gigandet (“Twilight”), Daniel Vasinova (“Madison”), Kelly Lynn Reiter (“Deadlock”), Brian Austin Green (“Beverly Hills 90210”) and Nick Swardson (“Just Go With It”), was acquired by VMI Worldwide for worldwide distribution and will be released to buyers at the Marché du Film.
Directed by Jared Cohn from a screenplay by Sean Sellers, the recently completed feature depicts a simple heist thrown into chaos when three low-level crooks (Dillon, Gigandet, and Vasinova) accidentally pull off one of the largest heists in history. With $300 million in hand, they seek refuge in a dying West Texas town, only to discover that the desperate residents are more dangerous than the law. As greed ignites and alliances crumble, everyone is willing to kill for money.
The cast ensemble of “Complex, Texas” includes Anthony Del Negro, Bastiano Ferrari, B.J. Hendricks, Christopher Murray, Clint Howard, Kirk Fox, J.B. Yowell, Jenna Jameson, Jesse Kove, Josh Kelley, Linda Vera, Liora Katz, Mark Rolston, Randolph Parks, Ryan Bader, Ryan M. Darling, and Sharna. Burgess, Stacey Kemp, Tori London, Willam DeMeo, and Julia Klass.
The deal was negotiated by Jessica Russo, COO of VMI Worldwide, and James Cullen Bressack of Sandaled Kid Productions.
“We are extremely excited to bring this film to market. It is a bold, character-driven story about desire, survival, and the unpredictable chaos that unfolds when ordinary people are pushed to their limits,” said Russo. “From the tone to the performances, this is a memorable film and we are proud to be working with our partner Sandaled Kid Productions on this new production.
“Complex, Texas” is produced by Bressack, Dillon and Kelly Lynn Reiter under Bressack’s Sandaled Kid Productions, the company that produced action films such as “Darkness of Man” and “Breakout.” The film is also produced in association with ALG Films, KMK Entertainment, Ferrari Films, Brace for Impact, and Picture Rock. Co-producers are David Josh Lawrence and Gustavo Peña. Executive producers are Stacey Kemp, Ryan M. Darling, and Bastiano Ferrari. Co-executive producers: James Lundquist, Kate Queen, BJ Hendricks
“Our goal from the beginning was to deliver a high-stakes, action-packed, character-driven story that was tense yet fun,” Bressac said. “I’m thrilled to be reuniting with Kevin Dillon, Cam Gigandet, and Daniel Vasinova, each of whom bring something special to these roles, while also working with familiar faces I’ve admired for years as well as new talent. I’m proud to continue our long-standing relationship with VMI Worldwide. This is the kind of bold, character-driven action the market is ready for, and a wild ensemble with real heart.”
VMI Worldwide’s Julie Pacitt runs global sales at Cannes. The company has already secured deals with Twelve Oaks in Spain and Daro in Eastern Europe.
