They are no longer newlyweds.
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey reportedly had a very awkward confrontation during a first class trip to Hawaii.
TMZ reports that the exes unexpectedly found themselves on the same flight from Los Angeles to Kauai, Hawaii, on March 29, and went out of their way to avoid each other.
The newspaper said Lachey noticed his ex-wife and turned “red-faced” and swapped seats with someone in the same group to get further away from her.
Making the situation even more complicated, Ms. Simpson’s estranged husband, Eric Johnson, was also reportedly sitting in coach rather than first class, as was Mr. Lachey’s wife, Vanessa Lachey.
However, while TMZ reported that Nick and Simpson did not interact, Us Weekly reports that the two briefly greeted each other.
“They actually said hi and it was a nice, heartfelt conversation,” a source told the outlet.
Page Six reached out to representatives for Simpson and Nick, but did not immediately receive a response.
Simpson, 45, and Nick, 52, were married from October 2022 to June 2006. The two famously starred in the MTV reality series “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which aired for three seasons from 2003 to 2005.
Both divorced and eventually remarried.
Nick married Vanessa in July 2011 and they have three children, Camden, 13, Brooklyn, 11, and Phoenix, nine.
As for Simpson, she married Johnson in July 2014 and they have three children together: Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 7.
She and Johnson separated in January 2025 after 10 years of marriage.
Nick made rare comments on Netflix’s “Ultimatum” Season 3 in 2024 about his failed marriage to the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer, specifically about how much it took a toll on him emotionally.
While speaking to the contestants about their fear of marriage, he said: “I’ve been married and divorced before, so I understand the scars and scars that come with it.”
But he told the contestants: “Don’t let your past dictate your future.”
“What I really wanted all my life was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family. If I hadn’t held on to that belief, I would never have realized the beautiful life I had with this woman,” he said of Vanessa.
