The “Better Call Saul” actor, who revealed he used to drive an Amazon delivery truck, has retired and is looking for a new role, all the while continuing to pursue new roles.
John Christian Love spoke exclusively to Page Six on Tuesday after a Reddit post about his delivery efforts went viral.
“Just a quick update, I actually left Amazon a few days ago,” he revealed, adding that he is currently interviewing for non-acting jobs and has applied for several roles before handing in his notice.
“The country route was destroying my body,” he said, referring to pre-existing health problems with scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease, a condition that causes back pain.
But Love, 35, called the non-contract position the “latest chapter” in his “bigger story.”
“I’ve never made my money off of acting alone, even on 11 episodes of ‘Better Call Saul,'” he said. “I’ve always had to do a regular job, so I put 110 percent into each role, just like I do with any role.”
The actor, who studied film at the now-closed Santa Fe College of Art and Design, explained that he had to hold regular jobs throughout his life while pursuing his passion for art.
“I could never sustain myself by acting alone,” he said. “I always had a day job.”
Love said she had high hopes when she was cast in the film Lone Wolf alongside Bryan Cranston, Lily Gladstone and Chet Hanks, but the project was halted from filming in February 2025 due to financial issues.
Love said she was never paid for her film work.
“This just happened to be one of those weird cases where the production company ran out of money,” he said.
Love said that the real motivation for pursuing his Hollywood dreams was the death of his older brother, who passed away while working at his day job.
“I’m not working, that’s it, and that’s the end of my life,” he said. “No, I have to do it for everyone I love.”
Love has kept in touch with some of his former co-stars, like Rhea Seehorn, but he has never been fond of them, and has no intention of doing so.
“I don’t want to be like, ‘Hey, can you do me this favor?’” I just want my work to speak for itself. And, you know, consider it justice,” he said.
Love continues to audition for roles and recently landed a role on the show Southern Bastards and the Snowfall spin-off series. However, Love would ideally like to land a role in a feature film or become a regular on a TV show.
“I love feature films, whether they’re B-list or C-list, where I’m the star of the movie,” he said.
Love mentions how “The Cosby Show” alum Jeffrey Owens got a job offer after a video of him working at Trader Joe’s went viral, and hopes someone will listen to his story and give him a chance at his next big break.
For Love, it’s not a matter of if, but when, he’ll return to acting.
“That’s what I like to do,” he said. “But you still have to pay the bills.”
Last month, Love shared a post on Reddit that revealed he was driving a delivery truck for a company owned by Jeff Bezos.
“As the actor who brought you the character of ‘Ernest/Ernie’ on ‘Better Call Saul,’ I want you to know that I’m here with you, too!” Love wrote. “It sucks, but one delivery at a time. Bless you!”
In her post, Love said she also worked as a mail carrier, a FedEx driver, and a seasonal driver for UPS.
“My hope is that everyone can do what they like and don’t let anyone feel like they’re a 9-to-5 slave,” he said.
Before co-starring with Bob Odenkirk, Love appeared in 13 episodes of Friday Night Lights, as well as the 2016 films Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Independence Day: Resurgence.
