Goetz sentenced to 12 years in prison for hit-and-run death

Getz, the British rapper and actor who appeared in the Netflix series “Super Cell,” has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a student in London.

According to BBC News, Goetz, whose real name is Justin Clarke Samuel, previously pleaded guilty to reckless driving, causing the death of 20-year-old Nepali student Yubin Tamang. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, and was also disqualified from driving for 17 years.

In court, prosecutor Philip McGee said Goetz had been drinking on the night of the hit-and-run in October and had a blood alcohol level of more than 1.5 times the legal limit. Goetz previously admitted to drinking three glasses of brandy while dining at a restaurant. Tamang died in hospital two days after the crash when she was struck by Getz’s car, which was traveling 90mph in a 30mph zone, while crossing a road in north-east London. Mr. Goetz did not remain at the scene.

Police later found a broken mirror on the road and identified the serial number as belonging to Goetz’s car. He admitted driving recklessly before the crash, including failing to stop at six red lights, but claimed it was because someone was following him, although no evidence of this was found.

Tamang’s family said in a statement: “We speak today with hearts broken beyond repair. Our only child, a precious soul, was taken from us far too soon. Justin Clark Samuel stole our son’s future and with it our future…We will never forgive him for his actions.”

Goetz’s lawyer read an apology from Goetz to Tamang’s family, expressing “extreme regret, shame and remorse.”

“This may be my only chance to apologize,” he added. “This was truly an unintentional act on my part, and I sincerely apologize for the pain and emotional distress I have caused.”

In “Supercell,” Getz played the antagonist Craig, aka Crazy. As a rapper, he has released four studio albums and collaborated with the likes of Stormzy, Skepta, Ed Sheeran, Dave and Sampha.
