Gucci gave Kate Moss a very cheeky homecoming gift.
The 52-year-old British supermodel closed Demna’s first Gucci runway show in Milan on Friday, walking down the Palazzo Sintile catwalk in a shimmering black turtleneck dress that was cut low at the sides to reveal a flashy thong and a tattoo of two swallows on her hip.
It was a full-circle moment for Moss, who was one of Tom Ford’s go-to Gucci girls in the mid-’90s. She didn’t walk home for about 30 years.
In fact, her last appearance was at Ford’s Spring 1997 show. This was the collection that introduced the designer’s now-legendary Interlocking GT bag to the fashion world.
Ford closed the show with two models, one male and one female, wearing bold designs, sending the fashion world into a frenzy.
Friday’s show, named “Primavera” after the Botticelli paintings that inspired Gucci Flora’s fragrances, was Demna’s first formal runway presentation since taking creative helm at the Italian house.
Moss was a famous fellow on the catwalk. Emily Ratajkowski, Karlie Kloss, Vivienne Wilson and Gabrielette also took turns in the designer’s debut collection, which leaned heavily into sexy silhouettes, flashes of skin and callbacks to her Ford days.
Gucci thongs have experienced a fashion renaissance in recent years. Kim Kardashian and Solange were the first to sport this archival piece in 2019, and the look has since become a celebrity staple.
Lori Harvey posed in a bikini version of a G-string while vacationing in Mexico last September, and Hailey Bieber wore a custom Gucci crystal dress and matching revealing thong at the GQ Men of the Year party two months later.
With Demna at the helm, barely-there underwear is back on the runway where it all began.
