Chris Fischer made a nasty joke about his divorce from wife Amy Schumer years before his marital woes made headlines.
To commemorate the comedian’s 40th birthday in June 2021, Fisher gave him a birthday cake that read, “I’m leaving you. This was the only way I could think of.”
At the time, Schumer, now 44, posted a video on Instagram showing her loved ones singing “Happy Birthday” as she accepted a questionable chocolate dessert from a chef.
As Fisher placed the cake in front of Schumer, her son Gene, now 6, was sitting on Schumer’s lap. Her expression changed from smiling to serious, but it’s unclear whether she was joking or not.
Last month, Schumer, who has been on a body transformation journey, deleted all of her pre-weight loss posts from her Instagram page, claiming she “deleted old photos for no reason!”
She then uploaded a carousel featuring modeling shots that did not include her wedding ring.
“Your Instagram is not your identity, it’s a curated version of what you want the world to see. I feel so strong and beautiful, and it was fun to share that,” she later explained.
However, the Daily Mail later reported that there was more to the story.
A source told the publication, “Amy is 100 percent divorced. She’s lost weight. She’s done. She deleted Chris from Instagram and then everything else. She plans on filing soon, but she’s done. She’s done.”
The source also claimed that Fisher, 45, “is barely leaving the house at the moment. She currently has two homes listed, one in Brooklyn and one in New Orleans.”
Another source pointed out that the actress “hasn’t taken him to the red carpet in months.”
“When women lose weight, their personalities change,” a second source claimed. “Amy has changed since she lost weight. She’s a lot lighter mentally and more at ease. I think she wants more out of life.”
That source and another source also claimed that Fisher’s autism “has become a minor problem in their relationship.”
In response to the report, Schumer took to her Instagram Story to partially claim, “Whatever happened to me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.”
And on Tuesday, a source close to the couple told Page Six that there was “zero chance of their marriage being repaired.”
A source elaborated: “They’ve had problems for years. … All they’re doing now is working out a conscious separation plan.” (The term divorce was popularized by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin in their 2014 breakup statement.)
Schumer and Fisher, who married in February 2018, spent the entire summer of 2023 apart, choosing to vacation in Europe with fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica Seinfeld.
By the end of that summer, Schumer and Fisher had reportedly agreed to repair their relationship. However, the two have since shifted their focus to their children.
“Amy also wants to have the most amicable co-parenting relationship possible with Chris and is considering what will work best,” the source said.
Representatives for Mr. Schumer and Mr. Fisher did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
