Meghan Markle gave a glimpse into her family’s Thanksgiving plans through her lifestyle brand As Ever’s newsletter.
The letter revealed how she and Prince Harry harvested sage while their children, Archie and Lilibet, and their two dogs enjoyed the garden. The herb was the inspiration for As Ever’s new product sage honey, which Meghan used to glaze a turkey in the brand’s latest promotional video.
Meghan has shared photos of her family preparing for Thanksgiving at their home in Montecito. The Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle brand As Ever revealed in its latest newsletter that she has been harvesting sage, one of her favorite herbs, with Prince Harry, their children Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, and their two dogs Pula and Mia.
“Sage’s delicate, grassy flavor ranks high on the founder’s list of favorites,” People magazine said in the newsletter. “Why? Well, the photo we saw on our Instagram this year of Meghan walking through a gorgeous purple lavender-like patch actually resembles a blooming sage beauty (fun fact: this variety is called Santa Barbara).”
The newsletter continues, “Archie and Lili in tow for a walk, her husband checking on the bees and Pula trying to keep up with Mia chasing a ball. It was a moment of sunshine that made our daily walks a little more magical. And that sage, that purple color, the scent of the garden was always in the background.” (Meghan has shared several snapshots of her garden, including an Instagram post featuring Archie and Lilibet in March).
The herb served as the inspiration for Meghan’s latest product, Sage Honey, which is part of As Ever’s holiday collection and is available for $32. “Here we are: a stunning sage honey that is aromatic and earthy, gourmet in its depth of flavor and elegant simplicity, inspired by the treats she enjoys at home with her family,” the newsletter reads. The magazine recommends honey’s many uses, adding that honey can be used “as an accompaniment to your Thanksgiving feast, as an accompaniment to poultry or vegetables, in a vinaigrette, or as a spoonful in a cup of tea.”
According to the newsletter, Meghan “imagined what sage honey would taste like on a Thanksgiving turkey,” which led to the product’s creation. As Ever’s website has a “Tips for Enjoying” section that recommends making a glaze by mixing sage honey with “a little bit of the bird’s cooking liquid” and a pinch of salt. On Tuesday, the brand posted a video on Instagram of Meghan brushing the mixture onto a turkey.
Last year, Meghan opened up to Marie Claire about the joy of celebrating the holidays with her children, saying, “At first, as a mom with kids, you think you just enjoy having them there, but they don’t understand everything that’s going on yet. But now we’re at an age where we can’t wait to see it through their lens every year.” She added that their Thanksgiving festivities are “always pretty low-key.”
Meghan also revealed that she lives close to her mother, Doria Ragland, and enjoys having close friends over for the holidays, including hosting Gloria Steinem for a year.
“I’ve thought as I’ve been here for Thanksgiving the last few years that, like many of us, we always make room at the table for friends who don’t have family. That’s really important,” she said.
She added, “We always try to do something fun. Like any other family, we eat good food and spend time. Then what do we do? We play games, we do the same thing, someone brings a guitar, it’s fun.”
