Danny DeVito can’t get enough of his grandchildren.
“I’m a doting grandpa,” he exclusively told Page Six recently. “Like I have to restrain myself from jumping in the car and driving over there, you know what I mean?”
The 80-year-old “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star has two grandchildren who live nearby.
“[Daughter]Gracie is the mother of two-and-a-half-year-old Sinclair, and Lucy is the mother of 15-month-old Carmine,” he said.
“It’s really great that I’m about 15 minutes from where they live,” he continued. “You want to resolve something, so you get in your car and call them and say, ‘What’s going on tonight? Can Pop Pop come over for some pasta?'”
DeVito boasted that his grandchildren are “real Italians.”
“They’ll say things like, ‘Do you want a cup of coffee?'” It becomes everything! he joked.
The Matilda star shares children Lucy, 42, Gracie, 40, and Jake, 38, with his estranged wife Rhea Perlman.
The couple separated in 2017, but have not divorced and remain good friends.
During a 2019 appearance on WWHL, the 77-year-old Cheers alum explained his decision not to legitimize their breakup.
“Danny and I have always loved each other, and we have three wonderful children, and we really agree on pretty much everything that’s important, and I mean, we’ve been together for 40 years,” she explained.
Meanwhile, DeVito will represent his home state next week.
The proud New Jersey native will once again serve as master of ceremonies for the 17th annual New Jersey Hall of Fame induction ceremony on November 21st, where he will celebrate Jon Bon Jovi’s wife Dorothea Bongiovi, educator Drury Thorpe, physicist Shirley Ann Jackson, and more.
DeVito, a Neptune native, praised the people of the Garden State for having “spirit.”
“We have hope, we have love, we are truly part of humanity,” he said.
The “Taxi” alum added that New Jerseyans always remember reality, noting that his favorite Jersey expression is “Is that okay?”
“People in Jersey will tell you the details,” he explained. “They’ll tell you if they like it or not.”
