Selena Gomez talked about newlywed life with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. She also touched on whether she would go on tour, saying there was one show she was open to. Selena Gomez is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her album Revival and has been prioritizing acting these days.
Selena Gomez sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to reflect on the 10th anniversary of her album Revival and the Rare Impact Fund. During the 28-minute conversation, the singer also touched on her newlywed life with Benny Blanco and her mixed feelings about possibly going on tour again.
Lowe congratulated the singer on her marriage and said that life really does continue to get better in the months and years after finding love. Gomez said, “I can definitely agree with that,” adding that marrying Blanco “has been such a dream so far and I know there will be ups and downs, but Blanco is the most beautiful person I could ever marry.”
Lowe later asked her if she planned to perform live again and if she missed anything about touring.
“I think the only thing I really miss is probably the interaction,” she said. “I don’t know if I’ll ever perform again. And I’m not going to say I’ll never do it again, because you never know. And I always say never, and then I keep coming back. So I’m very aware of my tendencies. But when I’m on stage, I feel so connected and I can really feel the power that my music represents.”
“I don’t know about award shows or other shows,” she added, thinking about where she’d like to sing again. “It’s always so vulnerable. It’s also…not everyone is going to support what you’re doing. There’s a different feeling when you’re on stage and when everyone’s around…”
“This is very performative,” Lowe said.
“That’s true,” Gomez agreed. “And sometimes I’m not good at that. I can do acting-y things, but I’m also not good at pretending on stage. I think I did a performance once where I thought I looked like a pop star, and I remember thinking, ‘Actually, the reason all of that looks so awkward is because it can’t be the opposite of who I am.'” But it’s performative, and I don’t know if I’d ever want to entertain again. But the idea of doing something like an acoustic set or a soft version is something I would love to do. I definitely miss being with my fans. ”
Lowe said Gomez “has worked hard to shed her ‘pop star’ skin throughout much of her life, from young adulthood to adulthood.”
Gomez admitted that she felt that way, saying, “I guess I just got tired of it a little bit. And I think what you get from the creativity of film or television or really any performance that’s not music is a different feeling that I can’t explain other than connecting with the characters. I connect with the pain of the characters, I connect with the joys of the characters and their relationships, their mothers and fathers. All of that is so interesting to me and being able to jump into someone.” However, I think it can be a little scary when you expose yourself and it becomes your own world. ”
