Lady Frederick Windsor claimed members of the royal family were living in “absolute hell”.
“The more you get to know the royal family, the more you realize that their lives are absolute hell and that level of unsought fame is a form of torture,” the British actress, real name Sophie Winkleman, told The Times in an interview published Wednesday.
“None of them were famous like[British music competition television series]’Pop Idol,'” she added.
“It’s just cruel to be born in such a blinding spotlight, not knowing who you can trust, not knowing if someone will betray you, and having people constantly write lies about you.”
Lady Frederick Windsor, who married Lord Frederick Windsor, son of Charles III’s second cousin Prince Michael of Kent, in 2009, said she “feels love” to the entire royal family.
“I don’t think it’s healthy to live with so much scrutiny and pressure, but they don’t have a choice,” she said.
In another part of the interview, Mrs. Frederick Windsor, 45, spoke about the wedding, where she said “no one knew.”
“I had some of my best friends there, but it was basically full of faces I’d never seen before,” confessed the “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” actress.
Page Six reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Dame Frederick Windsor, who has daughters Maud, 12, and Isabella, 9, with her husband, 46, previously spoke about how her wedding day was “a blur”.
“We had to move to Los Angeles the next day, so I had to start a whole new job the next day,” she recalled in an interview with The Telegraph in May.
“So we got married on Saturday, and the next day we moved everything, our whole life, to America. And I was so focused on work that I wasn’t thinking about the wedding,” the actress added.
Despite all the turmoil, Lady Frederick Windsor said she had no regrets about marrying a famous blood relative.
“Families aren’t always great, but this family is so sweet,” she shared, adding, “I love all of them.”
