Akon was arrested in Georgia last Thursday.
The “Locked Up” singer was booked in DeKalb County on Nov. 6, but was released just six hours later.
The 52-year-old’s arrest was on an out-of-state warrant out of Roswell, Georgia’s Fulton County, for a suspended license, Page Six confirmed Wednesday.
The warrant stemmed from Sept. 10, when officers noticed Akon’s Tesla Cybertruck “stranded” with a dead battery, according to an incident report obtained by Page Six.
While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, officers noticed that Akon had a suspended license for failing to appear for a court hearing in January 2023, and the songwriter was issued a summons to appear.
The songwriter was wearing a black hoodie in his mug shot.
Akon’s attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The Grammy nominee, real name Ariane Thiam, is best known for hits such as “Lonely” and “Smack That.”
His personal life was recently in the news after his wife Tomeka Thiam filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.
In September, Thiam sought joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter Journey.
Three years after the American Music Award winner said in an interview with VladTV that Akon was the father of “seven boys and two girls,” Akon confirmed in her filing that she has nine children.
However, in a roundtable discussion in 2022, he refused to reveal whether he is a polygamist.
The “Right Now (Na Na Na)” singer decided to “leave it as a rumor.”
“I like the fact that people are speculating. I love it. I’m not confirming or denying. You go online and you might see nine. You might see seven. You might see four.”
“But I love it,” Akon joked.
The following year, he gushed on “The Zeze Mills Show” that he was “there for each and every one” of his children.
