Katy Perry sings about trying to save a dying relationship in her revealing new song ‘Bandaids’.
The 41-year-old singer, who split from Orlando Bloom, 48, in June after nearly a decade together, released a new song and its music video on Thursday. The lyrics and video seem to offer a glimpse of the end of her and Bloom’s relationship.
“I put my hands up to God and swear I tried / Nothing worked out,” she sings. “It’s not what you did/It’s what you didn’t do/You were there and you weren’t.”
“I’m used to you letting me down/There’s no use trying to send me flowers anymore,” she sings. “Even if you tell yourself you’ll change, you won’t change/Putting a Band-Aid on a broken heart.”
In the song’s second verse, the lyrics allude to the steps she took to try to repair the relationship.
The lyrics say, “I tried all the medicine / My expectations were lowered.” “I’ve given every justification / Bleeding, bleeding, bleeding slow.”
She also sings about her partner not making any effort.
“It’s not that complicated/To ask how my day was,” the lyrics go. “I’m doing everything I can to save this.”
Still, by the end of the song, Perry sings that she has no regrets about the relationship ending, stating that they “had a good time.”
“If I had to do it all over again, I would still do it all over again,” she sings. “The love we built was worth it in the end.”
Although Perry doesn’t specifically name who she’s singing about, the music video makes more explicit references to her relationship with Bloom. She sees Daisy as she sings that this relationship will be “worth it in the end.” It’s a tribute to her and Bloom’s 5-year-old daughter, Daisy.
At the beginning of the video, she drops a ring in the drain while washing dishes and tries to pick it up with her hand. Perry made headlines in September 2024 when she revealed that Bloom rewarded her with oral sex when she did housework, especially when she washed the dishes on weekends when the housekeeper was away.
“So when I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean and you’ve done everything and washed all the dishes and closed all the pantry doors, I better be ready to have your dick sucked,” she candidly said during an appearance on “Call Me Daddy.”
“It’s literally my love language,” she continued. “I don’t need a red Ferrari! I can buy a red Ferrari. I’ll just cook your shit! I’ll smoke your shit! That’s easy.”
However, in the music video, Perry’s hand becomes bloody after she accidentally turns on the garbage disposal with her hand in the drain, which also signaled the end of their relationship.
Representatives for Mr. Perry and Mr. Bloom did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Perry has since moved on to relationships and is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
A source told Page Six that the 53-year-old politician is going head-to-head with the “Teenage Dream” singer.
“He’s crazy about her and thinks she’s the perfect woman,” the source said. “They relate to everything: politics, kids, French food.”
