Taylor Swift fans may not be able to get their hands on the “Reputation” vault truck any time soon, but the pop icon still has a soft spot for snakes.
For proof, look no further than the outfit she wore for a night out in New York with friend Gigi Hadid on Monday night. She paired Auter’s classic black pea coat ($1,450) with a pleated miniskirt, snake-print bag ($975) and boots from Stella McCartney ($1,775), one of her longtime favorite labels.
Both accessories appear to be made from real snakeskin, but in keeping with the company’s animal-friendly, cruelty-free ethos, they’re actually made from YATAY M, a vegan alternative made from mushroom mycelium, a mushroom root-like structure.

“More than 500,000 pythons are killed for fashion purposes each year in Southeast Asia alone,” Stella McCartney’s team said in a press release, adding that the production of YATAY M “does not harm any animals in any way.”
Swift has been a fan of the brand’s cruelty-free creations for the past decade, often incorporating them into her street style looks.
In 2019, she and McCartney teamed up for a capsule collection and pop-up inspired by the musician’s album Lover. (The designer also received rave reviews for Swift’s song “London Boy.”)

“I respect what she creates and how she creates it,” the songwriter shared on Instagram Live announcing the collaboration. “The clothes she designs are full of whimsy, imagination and romance.”
McCartney dressed Swift for the following year’s album Evermore, and shared on Instagram at the time, “When you know someone well, it’s easier to create something for them.”
“With Taylor, everything happened so naturally. The work I created reflects the effortless emotion of her album. Complementing a friend’s work is rare and precious, and it feels incredibly special,” added the British designer.
