Kristen Stewart celebrated the premiere of her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, at the BFI London Film Festival with a big fashion moment and the biggest hair change of the year.
The star showed off her chocolate brown hair with baby bangs on the red carpet. Stewart sported platinum hair earlier this year.
The long-time Chanel ambassador wore the fashion house’s sleeveless black and white minidress with black piping along the neckline and hem and two front pockets. She completed her outfit with black pointed pumps and a layered silver chain necklace.
It was a big night for Stewart, who directed, co-wrote and co-produced The Chronology of Water, the film adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 memoir. Starring Imogen Poots, the film tells the story of a woman’s journey through trauma, self-discovery, and artistic rebirth.
Earlier this year, Stewart screened the film at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation and critical acclaim.
She spoke to Numero about the project earlier this week, saying, “Not every book becomes a movie, but this book touched me and I immediately wanted to turn it into a collective experience.”
She also reflected on her lifelong dream of becoming a director. “As soon as I started acting, I knew I wanted to be behind the camera in some way. So, I’ve wanted to do that since I was 9 years old. I’m 35 now. I actually wanted to direct sooner, but the time just didn’t seem right. You have to wait for the trigger. Just because you have a desire doesn’t mean it will come true right away. Even if the machine is ready to go, you have to find the right key.”
