Jimmy Kimmel was able to give his staff a new face after the Stephen Colbert show was over.
On Tuesday, September 30th, I appeared on a late show with Stephen Colbert. The two hosts appeared as guests in Kimmel’s latest episode of the week in Brooklyn. Kimmel, 57, revealed that some of Colbert’s staff had already asked him about boarding Jimmy Kimmel Live. Before the Late Show ends in 2026.
“Can you talk about anything about your staff? You have great staff and your writers and your show is absolutely fantastic. And I mean that.
“But the first ten members of your staff came right away and said, ‘If you hire me I’ll leave today,'” he added.

Colbert commented with a smile as his audience laughed. “We should,” he said of the staff.
“Actually, are you hiring? Because you can use it in June if you need it. If that’s okay, you’ll be Guillermo’s sidekick,” he joked. “Please be happy with that.”
Elsewhere in their discussion, Kimmel pointed out to Colbert that what happened to his staff was “awful” and “shame” and that they “have such a great show and people love the show.”
Colbert added that the Late Show team is “the greatest group I’ve ever worked for,” and that “it took 20 years to bring this team together.”
The joke between Kimmel and Colbert comes two months after Colbert revealed in May that his late show would be wrapped. He announced it on the July 17th episode. CBS told people in a statement at the time that the move that came just days after Colbert denounced CBS parent Paramount for giving Donald Trump $16 million in the settlement was a “pure financial decision against a challenging late-night background.”
The Trump settlement occurred during a merger with Skydance, an entertainment company that requires approval from the Trump administration. The merger was completed on August 7th.
Kimmel then supported Colbert in the news, writing in his Instagram story “Love You Stephen. F—You and All Your Sheldon CBS.” He also encouraged Emmy voters to vote for Colbert in the standout talk series category by posting the Emmy Award-winning Billboard at La Colbert’s Show on September 14th.
Elsewhere during Kimmel and Colbert’s late-night appearance on Tuesday, Kimmel shared more insights about the temporary break on his own show over the week as Colbert shared his admiration for his friends.
“I’m so happy that your show is back,” Colbert said. “We’ve known each other for 20 years, but over the last few years we’ve only known each other well.”
“And I need to keep up with knowing you because the more I know you, the more I admire you as a leader, the more I know you as a friend.
