Box office sales in the UK and Ireland soared last weekend, with Disney’s “Toy Story 5” taking the top spot, earning a staggering £15.3 million ($20.2 million) in its debut.
Opening in more than 300 venues, the Pixar film had the biggest opening weekend in franchise history in the region, dominating the theatrical market with 72% of all ticket sales over the three-day weekend.
Universal took second place with Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller “Disclosure Day,” which earned $2.2 million in its second weekend. This high-concept event film starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor has grossed a total of $11.9 million.
Universal also ranked No. 3 with Curry Barker’s horror-romance “Obsession.” The genre hit raked in $1.2 million, bringing its total to $20.3 million.
Paramount’s horror parody reboot “Scary Movie” came in fourth place, adding $735,071 to its lifetime box office total of $11.1 million.
A24’s psychological horror “Backrooms” followed in fifth place, collecting $588,183 over the quota for a total of $15.5 million. Masters of the Universe, distributed by Sony, came in sixth place with $523,585 for a total of $6.5 million.
Universal’s music biopic “Michael” came in at No. 7 with $421,869, pushing its total to a staggering $69.2 million. Disney’s Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian and Grogu, followed in eighth place with $289,949, rising to a record $20.3 million.
Bakrania Media’s comedy sequel “Cocktail 2” debuted at No. 9, securing $249,874 in the opening session. Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 came in at No. 10, earning $111,833, pushing the long-running box office to $45 million.

On Friday, June 26, Paramount’s “Jackass: The Best and Last” will open in more than 300 screens on a grand scale, while Altitude’s star-studded drama “Private Life,” starring Jodie Foster and Daniel Auteuil and directed by Rebecca Złotowski, will open in more than 100 locations, expanding the range of circuit options. True Brit Entertainment will also release British drama “500 Miles,” while Picturehouse Entertainment will bring “The Last Viking,” a comedy-drama directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolai Lee Kaas, to more than 25 screens.
Professional independent replacements arriving Friday include the Sophie Ronvalli drama “The Blue Heron,” which Connick distributed in more than 25 locations, John Woo’s classic action film “A Better Tomorrow (4K Restoration),” which Arrow distributed in more than 25 locations, and Mensch Film Ltd.’s music documentary “Glastonbury The Movie: 30th Anniversary Cut.”
A limited number of fewer than 25 screens will be showing Calum Byrne’s military drama “Landship” for Kaleidoscope Entertainment and Together Films’ nature documentary “How to Live on Earth” starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The weekend’s events conclude with Underground Slate’s “The Toymakers Key,” Bakrania Media’s Punjabi comedy sequel “Carry On Jatta 4,” Lionsgate’s martial arts epic “The Furious,” and Anime Ltd’s special event presentation “The Ghost In The Shell (TV Preview Event).”
