Soap star Marcy Walker has serious health issues, according to a GoFundMe set up for the popular “All My Children” actress.
The GoFundMe did not disclose Walker’s illness, but noted that financial support for the 64-year-old star is “urgently needed.”
“Today, Mercy needs our help,” the fundraising page says. “For years, she has given her time, energy and heart to others, first as an actress and then through dedicated service and community work, but now she is dealing with ongoing health issues that are in dire need of financial support.”
According to the GoFundMe, the money raised will go directly to Walker and will be used to cover her essential living expenses, medical bills and personal expenses.
Walker’s “Santa Barbara” co-star A. Martinez, who played her love interest on the ’80s soap, revealed his illness last month before reuniting in a special livestream event on June 7. In an Instagram video, Martinez explained to fans why the two-hour virtual event costs $50 and up, and shared memories from when Walker and Walker played the couple Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo.
All proceeds from the event went directly to Walker to help cover his medical expenses.
“Some have expressed disappointment at the high cost,” Martinez said. “Out of respect for our partners’ privacy, we did not discuss the reason for the fees when we first posted.”
“The truth is, Marcy is sick and working hard to recover,” he continued. “And along the way, she faced the economic challenges that often plague those unfortunate enough to have serious medical needs in this country. She is in need.”
Martinez, 77, said the event would support Walker in a “personal” and “very memorable” way.
Walker appeared on Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1991 and is also known for playing Liza Colby on All My Children from 1982 to 2005.
In 1989, Walker won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in Santa Barbara.
In 2005 she quit acting and became a full-time Christian youth minister. She told Edmund Outlook in 2012 of her decision, “After a long time of prayer, God told me the scales had tipped, so I said I was stepping away from acting.”
