HBO Max has released a trailer for “Stuart Can’t Save the Universe,” which premieres on July 23rd.
The 10-episode show is a spin-off of the hit The Big Bang Theory, with episodes released every Thursday.
According to the logline, “Stuart Bloom, a comic book store owner, is tasked with restoring reality after he destroys a device created by Sheldon and Leonard and accidentally causes a multiworld Armageddon. They are aided in this quest by Dennis, his geologist friend Bart, and quantum physicist and all-around painsman Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet otherworldly versions of the characters we came to know and love in “The Big.” Bang theory. As the title suggests, things don’t go well. ”
The series stars Kevin Sussman as Stuart, Lauren Lapkus as Dennis, Brian Posen as Bart, and John Ross Bowie as Kripke.
The show was originally announced to be in development in April 2023 and was co-created by Chuck Lorre, Zac Penn, and Bill Prady.
The series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Lorre in an overall deal. “Stuart Couldn’t Save the Universe” is written and executive produced by Lorre, Penn and Prady. Kyle Newacheck is also an executive producer and has directed multiple episodes.
The series features original theme music by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Danny Elfman, best known for his work on various Tim Burton films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.
“Stuart Couldn’t Save the Universe” is the fourth show set in the “Big Bang Theory” universe. Apart from the show of the same name, which ran for 12 seasons on CBS, its prequel series Young Sheldon ended its seven-season run in May 2024. A spinoff of that show, Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding, starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, premiered on CBS in October 2024.
