Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 has cast newcomer Ruaridh Aldington as a series regular.
The news was announced today at San Diego Comic-Con’s Star Trek 60th Anniversary panel. Aldington plays Keats, a young alien with a mysterious background. The official description reads: “When the cadets made the risky decision to bring him back to Starfleet Academy, they realized he was wanted and their lives were in danger.”
Season 2, which takes place after The Burn, follows a new group of cadets who band together under Starfleet Academy with high hopes for their future. Commander Nara Ake (Holly Hunter) returns to train the next generation of cadets, and Caleb Mill (Sandro Rosta) becomes the embodiment of Ake’s attempt to right the wrongs of the past. And of course, villain Nuss Braca (Paul Giamatti) is expected to return to wreak more havoc.
Aldington is a London-based performer known for his roles in the 2024 supernatural thriller Drained, directed by Sean Cronin and Peter Stylianou, and the 2024 indie thriller Dirty Boy.
Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are co-showrunners on the series. They will serve as executive producers along with Gaia Violo, Aaron Byers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Ross, Frank Siracusa and John Webber. The season 2 premiere episode was written by Gaia Violo, who created the series. Alex Kurtzman, who directed 2017’s Hamunaptra starring Tom Cruise, directed this episode.
A release date for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 has not yet been announced. This will be the final season of the show. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
