Prince Harry made a surprise cameo on MasterChef Australia, FaceTiming his wife Meghan Markle, who appeared on the show as a guest judge.
During Sunday’s episode, the Duchess of Sussex called into the studio while she and the other judges were in the middle of sampling plates from the contestants.
“We got a call at the studio,” a production staff member told Ms. Markle, holding a cell phone.
Markle, 44, seemed worried until she saw Prince Harry’s face. Then she smiled broadly and said: “Hello, my love!”
The judges surrounding Markle, including Po Ling Yeo and Sophia Levine, smiled and laughed when Prince Harry replied, “Today.”
“My husband is here,” the “Suits” alum said as he showed the audience his phone.
The audience squealed and cheered in excitement as Harry, 41, waved and joked: “What’s going on? Did I interrupt something important?”
“Well, we’re actually sampling all the dishes,” Markle said, showing off her plate and munching on her favorite dish.
The actress also introduced the “Spare” writers to the show’s cast, including Aaron Carr, Casper Kenworthy and Petro Papatomas.
“That’s amazing,” she said, giddy. “They’re very talented.”
“I wish you were here,” Markle continued, telling the judge that she was in Canberra, Australia, with other veterans.
“Go ahead and have fun. Sorry to disturb you. All is well here. See you later,” the Invictus Games founder said before hanging up.
Some viewers online seemed to enjoy the “sweet” exchange, with one viewer writing via X: “Wow these two are so in love.”
“Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan do whatever it takes to support each other and that’s one of the reasons their marriage is so successful,” wrote another, while another added: “What a great moment! What a great marriage. Everyone who was there will remember this forever.”
While several agreed that it was a “cute moment”, other critics shared a different opinion, with one critic writing that it was “totally disgusting”.
A second hater said he couldn’t believe Prince Harry “just happened to call a random number to talk” to Markle, with another hater agreeing: “So fake.”
A fourth netizen added, “It’s staged.”
Markle appeared as a guest judge on the competition series earlier this year while visiting Australia with Prince Harry.
The couple, who married in 2018, are parents to 7-year-old Prince Archie and 5-year-old Princess Lilibet. It is unclear whether young children were included in the trip.
A source told Page Six that Markle “had a great time” on set with Poe and the other judges.
