Shalom Brune-Franklin and Jimmy O. Yang head to Sin City.
The two are the latest additions to the cast of Netflix’s Las Vegas-set drama series The Roman, starring Oscar Isaac.
Brune-Franklin (Dune: Prophecy, Sunny Dancer) will play Jessica Christine “JC” Griffin, a “wary and ambitious casino starlet” and “an important host and fixer who manages the whims of high rollers while having big plans for the future.”
Yang (Finally Home, Interior Chinatown) will play Rich Tzu, a sophisticated Eton-educated executive who becomes a rival to Isaac’s Bobby.
“The Roman” is an eight-episode, one-hour drama set in present-day Las Vegas, a modernized but still dangerous version of the Strip. At the center of it all is Robert “Bobby Red” Redman (Isaac), the president of the most popular hotel-casino in town. With his power threatened, Bobby must take long and difficult actions to secure his position and further control Sin City.
Previously announced cast includes Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile. “The Roman” is created by showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, whose Las Vegas storytelling dates back to “Rounders” and “Ocean’s 13.” The two also co-created “Billions,” which aired on Showtime from 2016 to 2023.
JC Chander is set to direct the first two episodes of the series. Martin Scorsese will executive produce The Roman for Sikelia Productions, along with Expanded Media’s Julie and Rick Yorn, Paul Schiff, Beth Schacter, and Isaac. Kelly Orent is co-executive producer.
