Eric Dane’s widow Rebecca Gayheart marked her first Father’s Day since his death with an emotional post about her two daughters.
“My heart aches for my daughters today,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, above a photo of the “Euphoria” star and her daughters Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14.
“This is a ‘first’ for many things. I know Eric takes care of them every day. ❤️🩹,” the “Jawbreaker” actress, 54, added.
Billy also paid tribute to his late father on social media, sharing a throwback photo from his younger days.
“Dad, dad, dad, there’s never been a date where I don’t miss you,” the teen wrote. “I love you more than words can express.”
Dane passed away on February 19, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 53 years old.
The Grey’s Anatomy actor died of respiratory failure, according to a death certificate obtained by People magazine in March.
Furthermore, according to the Mayo Clinic, his underlying cause of death was due to ALS, a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Dane and Gayheart married in a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas in 2004.
They welcomed daughters Billie and Georgia in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
The “Scream 2” actress filed for divorce from Dane in February 2018 after 14 years of marriage, but withdrew the filing last November, citing health issues.
Following the “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” star’s death, Gayheart broke her silence and thanked everyone who supported her and her children through this “difficult” time.
Four months after Dane died, our youngest daughter, Georgia, graduated from middle school.
“Congratulations Georgia!!! You graduated middle school and survived an incredibly difficult year,” the actress wrote on Instagram in June.
“I couldn’t be more proud of you. Your tenacity, grit and grace are on full display,” Gayheart continued.
“Welcome to high school. I’m sure you’re ready. I’m so excited. Not pictured is the beach volleyball MVP trophy. Bravo, congratulations and I love you so much ♥️”
