A new take on “The Blair Witch Project” is scheduled to be released in theaters next fall.
Lionsgate, which is backing the supernatural thriller reboot, has scheduled the film for release on September 24, 2027.
Plot details were kept under wraps, but Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson previously described the film as a “new vision” that “reintroduces this horror classic to a new generation.”
Dylan Clarke, who started his career on YouTube, is directing the upcoming “Blair Witch Project” from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin.
Released in 1999, “The Blair Witch Project” is one of the most commercially successful independent films of all time, grossing approximately $250 million at the global box office on a shoestring budget. The film uses “found footage” to capture the true story of three student filmmakers who disappeared while making a film based on the Blair Witch legend.
The remake’s executive producers include the 1999 film’s creators Eduardo Sanchez, Daniel Myrick, and Greg Hale, as well as original film cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. They will be joined by Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Steven Schneider. Blumhouse Atomic Monster founders Jason Blum and James Wan will produce alongside Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
The Blair Witch Project spawned a sequel in 2000, The Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, which was not as successful as the original, and a 2016 remake of The Blair Witch directed by Adam Wingard. Lionsgate currently operates a Blair Witch-themed escape room in Las Vegas called Escape Blair Witch.
