Princess Diana once said she wanted her sons Prince William and Prince Harry to communicate on a “deeper” level.
In November 1995, the late mother-of-two wrote a never-before-seen two-page letter to a fan named Michael Barratt, who had sent him a letter of support after watching her shocking interview on BBC Panorama.
According to Lehman Dancy’s Royalty, Antiques & Fine Art auctions, which is selling the letter, Princess Diana said in the letter “how touched she was by the contents and his profound words, especially his feelings of self-awareness and moving forward in life.”
The former Princess of Wales wrote that she hopes her interview – in which she admitted that her marriage to then-Prince Charles broke down due to infidelity – will help other women facing similar difficulties.
The auction house said Princess Diana wrote about looking forward to the future and “sharing and teaching Prince William and Prince Harry the importance of communicating on a deeper level.”
She thanked Barratt and concluded the letter: “Princess Diana, with all my best wishes.”
The letter, estimated to sell for between $4,000 and $6,000, comes with the original envelope with Princess Diana’s handwritten name and address.
Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris in August 1997. She was 36 years old.
Last month, Christopher Andersen, author of “KATE! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen,” told Page Six in an exclusive interview that Prince William and Prince Harry have had tensions “ever since they were little and they were wrestling in the back of a car.”
Andersen said he was able to “make it very clear” to Harry that he was “less than William” and that it “left a huge mark on them and ended up really ruining their relationship.”
Harry, 41, and William, 43, are no longer on speaking terms.
Things started to get difficult for the brothers when the Invictus Games founder and his wife Meghan Markle left the royal family in 2020 and moved to North America with their son Prince Archie.
Things got worse after Prince Harry and the Suits actress, 44, accused the royal family of racism and released a Netflix series about their issues.
Then, in January 2023, Prince Harry released a bombshell memoir, Spare, in which he claimed that Prince William physically attacked him over Markle.
However, the father-of-two has also made some progress in talks with his father, King Charles, including a nearly hour-long meeting in September last year.
